Problem with multiple devices

Hi everybody,
I’m using protonvpn with 10 devices. Devices connects to Internet through the same router but each device needs to be connected through his own VPN connection, so I’m using one openvpn instance on each device. But I have a problem if the main router disconnects. As soon as the router connection is up again (let say 2 seconds) each device try to reconnect. So all devices trying to reconnect at the same time and they alway get an AUTHENTICATION error. All devices retry and again each device get an AUTHENTICATION error. And so on… I tried to put an incrementing time between retrys (let’s say 5 secs… 10 secs… 15 secs… and so on) but it can take minutes (up to 10 at least) to have all devices connected again. I suspect this is becaus PROTON does not detect a device is disconnected and it does not allow devices to connect until it understands that slots are no more used by aother devise. Also there is no way (lika an api on PROTON side) to check active connections and eventually reset them.

Any idea how to solve this problem? Also… is this a problem with all VPN providers?

Thank you very much!

Why don’t you have your router run the VPN and run all devices through that.

Wouldn’t all connection points still be ran through the router tho? I believe that would do for random devices like Apple TV or that type of shit. Maybe not the comp & phone but now I’m curious if it would change each IP or not

Hi, just to say I have the same problem, at least 5 minutes reconnecting, and I have not found yet a way to “reset” everything, as you said. Will keep an eye in case somebody has an idea to answer your question. I am using the protonvpn cli and it just keep error with auth-disconnecting … until everything works again, so it was not an auth error.

As I wrote, I need each device to use a different VPN connection.

what is the reason every device needs its own connection? I am genuinely curious if it isn’t too private
