Polling people who are paying for Aura -- pleas share your review/thoughts/feedback

I am trying to find a good credit/identity monitoring service. I’ve already frozen our entire family’s credit. I still want some kind of monitoring service.

My research indicates Aura to be the best.

Curious what y’all’s experience has been like?

I think Aura is pretty good at Identity theft and Credit monitoring. They proactively have contacted various data brokers and have started the fairly laborious process of getting my information legally removed, They even tell me when that data broker is legally allowed to return my data to their database, and tell me they will start the removal process over again.

It also scans dark web locations looking for mentions of the data I have asked them to protect.

It only freezes credit monitoring with one US Credit bureau (Experian) , but offers links to the other two for you to manually freeze them. They have a relatively inexpensive two person subscription so my wife and I are on the same account and can see each other’s results.

It provides me with a weekly summary of its activity on my behalf. I am happy with this level of protection.

The Ant-Virus, password protection, and VPN services are not that great to be honest. The anti-virus is functional but very slow, and the password protection is not as good as the free version of Bit Warden, and the $10/yr (US) subscription of BW is MUCH better. The VPN is a bare bones stripped down sort of thing. This area of their protection is better than nothing, but but I think one can find low cost, or even free, versions that are better.

ON THE OTHER HAND:

It is very inexpensive. It was the cheapest I could find. I was looking primarily for Identity theft protection since both my wife and I were victims of this in the past. I am quite satisfied with my current password protection, and anti-virus software. And I’m not convinced that a VPN is needed for those who do most of their computing work from home. And when I do travel, I don’t use my gear in the airport. Well, I do use my Kindle (offline)

Let’s be honest, it is a relatively new service. It’s going to get better over time, and I think it is priced fairly for what one gets.

OVERALL:

I am quite satisfied with the service I am getting. And so far, I have had no reason to regret my purchase.

For it to be the best and most used, it’s sure hard to find people who are using it. I’ve been looking as well for a company I can trust.

I signed up for it. And in minutes I canceled it. All I got was ads asking me to upgrade for more services. During this time it kept asking me if I wanted to activate this service and that service. From all the commercials I saw, it says it takes just minutes. If I sign up for their service, why do I have to activate individual modules? For instance activate banking protection and spam email and so forth. If that is included in the service, then it should just be active.

DO NOT get Aura god please do not. I have had it for 2 years. My identity was stolen literally last week and Aura did absolutely nothing to stop it. If you want a software that actually works, look elsewhere. Also, it will randomly block different processes on your computer and you won’t understand why until you uninstall the app. I’m pissed at them right now, because you can’t promise identity theft protection and proceed to allow very basic and easy identity theft to occur. It almost feels like a scam.

I have been using AURA for a relatively short time, but since downloading it, I have NOTHING BUT TROUBLE logging onto important financial institutions. One in particular is one of my bank accounts. Every time I try to log in, it tells me my information is wrong. I call the bank and we think we have it straightened out, but it happens the next time I attempt to log in. It’s not the only account I have problems, but it is the most important.

I have had Aura for almost 2 years now. I love it! It’s fast at alerting you. They alerted me about someone opening a bank account in my name and I was able to take care of it quick. I also recently purchased a car and when my credit was pulled Aura sent me notifications immediately that my credit had been checked. The VPN is mostly good I wouldn’t keep it on all the time as it loses connection after a while. I would just use it for online shopping, banking etc. Overall it’s great and I have been really satisfied with them!

I was looking at reviews and came across this reddit. My wife and I have had Aura for about a year. Their credit monitoring/ID theft protection is very good, but their security application may be the worse. When I installed the Chrome browser extension it would slow down sites like Facebook Marketplace to the point where images would not load. I also ran into issues with my PC where it could cause random freezing that could only be fixed by rebooting my computer. This happened before and after I did a complete wipe and rebuild of my PC. My wife’s computer would randomly reboot when she had Aura running with Photoshop. Again, after a complete rebuild. I now have their security suite uninstalled and I am using the Microsoft Defender as we have not determined what we want to use for a security suite.

I put in a ticket with Aura and they wanted to do a remote session to see if they could find the issue. I didn’t have time to schedule a Zoom meeting with them. IMO when you see it causing issues on 2 different computers, it leads me to believe that there is something wrong with their app. Maybe a future patch will fix it, but I need to be able to use my computer without random freezing or in my wife’s case, reboots.

We used to use Norton 360, but I ran into an issue where my password vault (hosted by them) had all information removed. Their support basically said there was no way they could restore that information. Norton 360 app would also have pop up adds for additional products. It seemed like every day they were wanting me to purchase something new. These were the kind of fear tactic ads that was like “We found 3729 malicious web links on your computer, upgrade to blah blah blah to resolve these issues”. Uhm no.

I use Google’s Password Manager and when I migrated that to Aura’s password manager that turned into a hot mess as well. The biggest part was some stupid circle with an A that would be floating over a web page that required a login and it would me in the most inconvenient of spots. That and it didn’t do a good job of recommending passwords when setting up new logins.

I think this is a case where a company is “trying” to be an all in one place for all of your security and identity needs and are excelling in parts and failing miserably in others.

I’m looking into identity theft protection as well, but everything I keep reading is freezing your credit from 3 bureaus… or using credit karma.

I have no credit card… I just want my other junk protected.

As a former McAfee user, I recently made the switch to Aura in search of a more robust internet security provider. However, my experience thus far has been far from satisfactory.

Aura’s performance in preventing identity thefts leaves much to be desired. Despite their claims of solid protection, I remain unconvinced of their capabilities in this regard.

One of the most frustrating aspects of using Aura is its unreliable behavior on public Wi-Fi networks. Whether it’s at airports, public libraries, or coffee shops, the program frequently stops or disconnects, leaving my devices vulnerable to potential threats. Even on my home Wi-Fi network, which I consider safe, I’ve encountered similar issues.

This begs the question: how can Aura purport to offer solid online security and identity theft protection if its software fails to consistently protect computers? The supposed solution of Aura VPN also falls short of expectations.

Overall, my experience with Aura has been disappointing, and I cannot recommend it as a reliable internet security provider.

In July 2024 I paid for a year subscription. In September I no longer had access to my account, due to some glitch. Resetting password gave me a red-texted error message to call tech support. The number sent me to some random phone support who knows nothing about the issue. They say they will have tech support call back. I have called in 4 times about this issue.

In early November I told them to remove my card from auto pay, until my problem gets resolved. Since it did not get resolved I have asked for my money back since I no longer control my account (THEY CONTROL IT, AND THEY HAVE ALL MY DATA FOR EVERYTHING) and I am no longer getting what I have pre-paid for. When I demanded it back, the lazy support guy said I was past the 60 day money back guarantee. He was one of 4 that said I would receive a call back. That was a week ago from 12/05/2024 and I have not received a single call back for more than 2 months of my account lock-out.

Now that they have my money they can care less if their product works or not. They seem to be geared at a one-and-done support based off of the marketing of their product, not the product itself. Someone will come along and over take them and will treat it like a business that will be in long term.

Aura just received 300M in funding and used it for marketing very hard, hence what you’re seeing with certain sites saying they’re the “best”. They paid marketers, bloggers, review sites and celebs like Robert Downy Jr to promote their name. They are definitely a bigger player, but I wouldn’t say they’re the best. There really are only a few larger back end ID Protection data providers who are feeding many companies the traditional data for ID Monitoring that most people think of. Instead, I would look for a product that takes identity monitoring, money management and insights, privacy (with brokers and vpn), password management, credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, company breach and security monitoring, and more. Its best to get a complete picture. Things like LifeLock (more so than aura) and aura are heavy on the ID Insurance and ID Monitoring features. I have feelings towards ID Insurance but I guess its a feature and maybeee someday will be a value add? Its not at all what you should care about most.

Aura sucks. The software is blocking me from using my Chrome Google search, throwing 403 and 406 errors. I contacted support, and they told me to TURN OFF MY ONLINE SECURITY. No joke.

I purchased this product at the end of May 2024; I just canceled the service because it LOCKED MY COMPUTER UP!! I have to take it to be repaired. If I had it to do again, I would not have WASTED MY MONEY!! A customer service representative informed me she has this anti-virus protection on 4 of her devices and she has never had any problems. I said, “Good, happy for you, but nothing is 100%, and unfortunately, there are glitches, and one of them is in my computer.” Be careful with Aura and good luck to you!

Unsatisfied customer

Idk about the other services but I receive a lot of spam calls from running a business for years. And this service made my phone finally go silent from all the spam callers.

If they got your social security number on dark web there is nothing you can do to clear it, these id alert companies are a ripoff, had to cancel it asks for my bank log in and would not work, the bank was more protective than Aura was.

I’ve had Aura, not even a year yet, and happy to say, I’ve had all my spam calls stopped, identity protection is very good and because I’ve been scammed before, my info is all over the dark web, damn…
Anyway, they assist you in dealing with am getting info removed and removed slit in their own. I also use a “Google” service for this, in addition.
So far so good!
I’m about ready to start working on my SSN # being removed, email, and phone #

I may need to do additional work as well, I’ll keep you updated, if I can remember to :woman_shrugging:

Most of the people here don’t understand how VPN’s and identity monitoring will slow down hardware and resources on devices. This type of service runs in the background constantly monitoring everything you do online. You will get that with any similar services not just Aurora. I suggest you research more deeply into what you’re trying to accomplish to see if you actually have the hardware and resources to accomplish it.

I have a rather new mobile phone and I use Aurora for all my security purposes. A lot of the services will eat up all your resources and drain your battery so you only need to have them on when you need to use them. Just like any other background process if you don’t know what it’s doing you’re gonna be frustrated with the results. Educate yourselves because I can go to Norton, McAfee or any other similar software and product and look through the Reddit and it’s the same type of people complaining about the same things. It’s not the Service it’s you.

Stop being vulnerable research why you’re identity has been stolen four times research if your device can even handle the service you are buying just research people. Stop relying on other people to get the information for you.

Aurora has done me just fine.

I do not recommend this service. I bought it last year, and the first thing it did was reorganize all of my accounts and make my life miserable. I use a personal and a professional email. It took over the personal and separated the professional. It made it impossible to try to work back and forth without opening a new user for each. When I called to find out if there was a workaround, the man was very snarky and asked me if I wanted to cancel in a very sarcastic manner as in take it or leave it. Since I had been exposed supposedly, I kept it for the year. Well, the year just finished. When they left, they wiped all of my saved Google passwords… all of them. Thank God they were not in my professional email.

I have no idea if they protected me from anything, but they were rude to deal with and did not play nice when I canceled. I will be seeking platforms to spread the word about my experience so that no one else has to suffer.

I am a bit nervous about the registration process in which I’m asked to enter all my personal data including my social security number? Is this normal? I can’t trust anything nowadays with so many scammers and people making fake websites and A.I. etc…
