[UPDATE: POSSIBLE FIX
Turning off Verizon’s Home Network Protection (powered by McAfee) seems to fix the problem. CenturyLink users reported the same problem being caused by their McAfee protection software.]
Suddenly this morning, I could not log into the game while on my home wifi. I tried from multiple devices with no luck. I eventually found that I could log in if I disconnected from wifi. Reconnecting to wifi made the game unresponsive (tapping a Pokemon on the map would cause it to disappear after a few seconds), so it’s not just a login issue.
The game works on wifi with VPN (SurfEasy) enabled, but doesn’t work using Samsung’s “Secure Wi-Fi” setting. I tried rebooting our router, with no change. No overnight system updates on my phone.
This definitely seems like a Verizon issue. I’m just wondering if there’s anything I can do to fix it (short of using a VPN all the time), or, if I have to contact Verizon, what to tell them to point them in the right direction.
While asking questions about the game is always okay on the Road, please consider asking very simple questions in our weekly Questions&Answers Megathread.
If your question has been answered, please comment “ANSWERED” (in all caps) and the post flair will indicate that your question has been answered. This will make it either easier for other people with the same question to find the answer they are looking for or for mods to remove the thread if it isn’t needed anymore.
Thank you!
No resolution other than “it should fix itself eventually.” I wonder if anyone has any more useful ideas than that.
One possible issue mentioned was daylight savings time, which just ended last weekend. I’m not sure why it would suddenly stop working five days after the time change, though.
Here in Colorado, having the exact same issue, on multiple devices - one login is gmail and the other Pokemon Trainer Club. I read on that other post about Daylight Savings time which is interesting, however, my router/modem is set to the correct time.
I have century link fiber and amazing connectivity, everything works except logging in and playing PoGo solely on Wifi… If anyone sees anything for the root cause please post here!
My household is suffering from this issue too. Also on Verizon FiOS. Tried restarting and the Wi-Fi connection reset recommended but only way to play is by staying on cellular. Hoping for a resolution soon
I’m experiencing similar issues. Three accounts all work on cellular or hot-spotted to cellular. On CenturyLink WiFi, at home, I can not log in. Log-in with TrainerClub or Google both fail. My girlfriend has CenturyLink they all fail at her place too. CenturyLink changed my IP address which didn’t fix the issue. Reboot phones, reboot modem/router, all multiple times. No solution yet.
Having same issue. I am also on Verizon Fios. All accounts work on cellular, but when connected through my home Wifi I am unable to connect to the server and have a sign in/authentication error message.
I have 3 accounts all suffering from this issue. 1 account through Google and 2 accounts through Facebook logins. Here are the messages I have seen, all resulting in me not being able to log in.
This account has failed to authenticate. Please try again or try a different linked account. (Facebook and Google)

I let my router sit unplugged for the night to see if i could get a new IP in the morning and that worked, but did not solve my problem.
What I do find particularly weird is that if unplug my router and then plug it back in, i can log into all three account for like a 5-10 minute window after the connection comes back up. This leads to me to believe its not an IP issue like I had thought originally.
Will be keeping an eye on this thread. When I searched this up a few days prior I couldn’t find anything about my problem.
