I want to use VPN to download files I’m unable to get in my own country. When I use the free version of Proton however I only get download speeds of 30-40 kb/sec which is really too slow for me.
Would the paid version increase those download speeds? I download the files through a webbrowser, not through bittorent or others
In Plus servers I can reach my full ISP speed about 300Mbps.
On the paid proton vpn servers i max out my 100mb fibre download probally 80% of the time. The only times i dont is when server load for that particular server has dramatically increased in time since i connected. And then you can easily just connect to another. The nodes show in % how busy they are.
YMMV however I get plenty of throughput on the paid servers.
This needs more upvotes. Yes the paid servers are faster, but they are extremely unlikely to make any difference in this scenario.

No. The free servers are not limited to 30-40kb per second. This is a speed capped download from a slow provider. Paid proton servers will not improve this, as proton isn’t limiting it in the first place.
Without SC, but with SC my speed is like 200 to 230Mbps.
Free plans are offered medium speed. Premium plans get full speeds. Also there are no plus servers for free plans which have 10gbps speeds. So in that sense, yes.

Having said that, OP is clearly having network issues. Or that specific free server is having issues. Regardless download speeds would improve with a paid account.
Speeds in general may improve (if they have an isp providing enough bandwidth to show the improvement), but it won’t help this specific instance (because it’s a problem at the source), which to be fair was OP’s question.
Yeah I stick with what said above, I have never had speeds in kb/s with premium servers. Not even once. OP needs to take a look at router/network configuration.
