Overwhelmed - Questions regarding remaining anonymous with bitcoin and buying mullvad

Overall I think my question is simple I’m just very out of the loop when it comes to bitcoin/cryptocurrencies

My objective is to Buy Mullvad. The reason I want a VPN is for privacy and with that I’d like my purchase to be as absolutely anonymous as reasonably possible.

I had always heard the nature of bitcoin was anonymous but apparently it’s not. From what I’m seeing In order to remain private I have to do something like this

  1. Create a legitimate Coinbase account
  2. Download TOR Browser
  3. Go to a mixing service to tumble the coinbase coins
  4. I need to send those tumbled coins to some kind of wallet
  5. From that wallet I need to then send money to Mullvad

I dont understand what to do from steps 3 and onward. I don’t know what services to use or trust. Some sites say to use a particular tumblr other sites all say tumblers are a scam or honeypots. Id appreciate some in sight as my whole head is spinning.

As a side question I’d like to know: Is it safer/more private to buy Mullvad 1 month at a time or just the whole year?

Thanks.

you can download cakewallet put btc there swap for monero send to another monero address swap back to btc and buy mullvad.
If anybody sees any issues with this pls lmk

Honestly, u/ForThoseCurious - you are making this much more complicated than necessary. No need to be overwhelmed at all.

just send Mullvad cash in an envelope along with their payment form, and give yourself enough time for international mail (if that fits your case). This gets you the maximum privacy/anonymity, and the only cost to you is a stamp - which is probably going to be a lot less than the crypto charges.

I will be sending Mullvad my next envelope of cash a month before my account expires to make sure I don’t have a gap in service.

You could allways just mail them Money the literarily most anonymous way.

Just find a bitcoin atm if theirs one where you live. Buy you a cheap burner phone, put cash in atm, put in prepaid number, fake name. Boom.

I’m also a crypto currency idiot so that’s why I opted to buy Mullvad with cash. It took 2 weeks from The Netherlands but my payment was processed and time was added to my account.

Bitcoin isn’t anonymous and isn’t fungible. What 99% of people mean or want when discussing ‘crypto’ or ‘bitcoin’ is Monero. It’s a coin that is actually fully fungible and private. Nobody knows the history of any coin (unlike Bitcoin’s fully public ledger and ‘dirty coins’), and every transaction is not only encrypted, private and secret, but it is accompanied by 7 ‘ghost’ fake transactions to muddy the pool and make it basically impossible to know who sent what to whom, or when.

TLDR: Buy or mine Monero, buy a Mullvad voucher from one of the EU based resellers listed on Mullvad’s site like ProxyStore. No messing around with laundering coins etc required. It’s private and secure by design out of the box.

The proper way to do this (using crypto and KYC):

  • Buy BTC from Coinbase or Buy XMR (Monero) from Kraken (Better)
  • Download and create a wallet using Featherwallet (Opensource Tor based wallet)
  • Switch to XMR using changenow/shapeshift/fixedfloat to a featherwallet subaddress (Skip if using Kraken)
  • Send XMR to a subaddress (starting with ‘8’)
  • Open a clean Tor Browser session and browse both ProxyStore and Mullvad Tor addresses
  • Buy a Mullvad Voucher from ProxyStore with XMR
  • Create a new Mullvad account using the onion address and apply voucher

I’m not sure what this means you’re speaking to a crypto currency idiot.

From what I’ve gathered:

  1. Cakewallet appears to be an app of some kind. Looks to be like a banking app.
  2. Monero is a different kind of crypto currency

Are you saying I should be doing something like:

  1. Buy bitcoin on coinbase
  2. Send the bitcoin to this Cakewallet phone app
  3. Cakewallet can exchange bitcoin to monero
  4. ???Not sure what you mean by send to another monero address
  5. After exchanging for monero twice use cake wallet to buy Mullvad?

It seems Cakewallet is a phone only app and it wouldnt be through a VPN is that safe?

So you just drop an envelope without a return address in a box at the post office, with the money and the completed of instructions that mullvad provides?

The real reason i kind of deep dove into it was because I wanted to understand bitcoin. I thought it was gonna be easy to be anonymous with it. But honestly this is me in a nutshell, I do things like this way too often. I deep dive into things I dont have a basic understanding of and overwhelm myself until it finally clicks lol.

After posting this i found a reply to my question in another post. Thanks for the info!

What would be the process of that. Just dont put a return address on it, drop it in a box ship them 60 bucks USD?

Wouldnt the Bitcoin be traceable to the ATM? if so wouldnt it just be as simple as getting the camera feed on the date of purchase of the bitcoin?

You can have a vpn on your phone but then i guess it becomes a chicken and egg problem. Cakewallet can have several addresses in-app so sending to different xmr addresses is easy. You can even buy xmr or brc in cake directly with credit card. My point ia that to have more private bitcoin you can go through monero and not a mixer. You can also do an atomic btc monero swap but atm it is more complicated

You bet! Hope I helped. I had a similar inclination a few years ago, and decided that it was very complex if you wanted to manage your own bitcoin.

Bitcoin is not for the faint-hearted. Anyone who tells you otherwise doesn’t have a full picture of what they are doing.

Having a similar issue, would you mind sharing what ended up working for you?

Open a account and choose cash as option.

Just follow it and don’t put a return address on it as they say so they literarily can’t and don’t need to log any data about you.

Create a numbered account on Mullvad, select the ‘cash’ option and all the instructions are there.

You are correct. Wear a hoodie and sunglasses  I have my buddy go in for me. Who would tell any prying people they have no idea who I am, they were just paid to do this . There use to be a website called localbitcoins too. Can do cash by mail, or meet up with a vendor. Or use a gift card, etc. You just pay higher than the actual btc price.
