Outline VPN when on cellular data network

Outline VPN works fine when I am on WiFi but when I switch to cellular my data doesn’t seem to work. As soon as I toggle off Outline VPN my cellular data works again. I am experiencing this same issue on two different iPhones which have Outline VPN installed. I have the latest iOS and latest Outline VPN app.

I don’t have this issue. Rather, when disconnecting from WLAN while outline is running, it seamlessly carries over to my mobile data network without interrupting the connection.

I’d recommend to go to Settings - General - VPN - and remove the outline settings. Then, close the outline app, restart and re-setup the vpn configuration.

I don’t know where you’re living and what you need the outline vpn for, but outline runs on ShadowSocks (SS) which in some cases is slower and easier to get blocked than ShadowSocksR (SSR). I live in China and used to play around with outline at first but never got stable nor fast connections. I later deleted outline and set up my own SSR server (and paid for the Shadowrocket app), which is fantastic. Here a guide.

I don’t know where you live, what I’m going to tell applies just to one cellular operator in one particular country, but this might be the case for others.
Russian cell operator Yota does throttles shadowsocks (and hence outline) traffic because they use some sort of QoS/traffic filtering that can’t recognize ss traffic, so it cuts it to almost 0 - connection establishes but it takes forever for something to load.
To check if that’s the case you might wanna ask your friends who use different cell operators to try and use your outline server. If that would work for them that means something is up with your provider and you’d require either obfuscation or change of cell provider.

I live in the U.K. so don’t think it is something with the cellular network per se.

I actually find using Outline vpn on cellular works ok on my personal iPhone. However, I have issues when using Outline vpn on cellular on my work iPhone (basically data won’t work if I try to connect to vpn when on cellular on my work iPhone). It may be a restriction my work IT out on my iPhone as I know there are a bunch of profiles installed?

I think the best way of dealing with this would be to have an option to automatically disable the Outline vpn when on a cellular network (and certain Wi-Fi networks) - maybe a whitelist andor blacklist of networks to use for the vpn - otherwise I have to constantly toggle the vpn on and off.
