Nordvpn dedicated IP

The other day I found out about such thing as nordvpn’s dedicated IP when I was doing a little research for which vpn to get. I’m kind of a noob about this whole cybersecurity stuff, so really would like to get some answers here.

When it’s better to get dedicated IP and when just get the regular subscription? What is the difference between those two? If I’m going to use a vpn for streaming, which option would be better for me in such case? Would be also really cool if someone could tell me the benefits of dedicated IP too.

Thanks a lot!

Having a dedicated IP means that:

  1. You don’t share an IP address with other people, so you are less likely to get affected by people using nordvpn to do nasty or questionable stuff, and are less likely to get blocked from a service by IP because of other ppl. For instance, I’m sometimes getting “are you a robot” or “we detected suspicious activity from your IP address” from Google when using nord.
  2. You can create access lists with that IP on any service / server because it’s unique to you.
  3. The main downside in my opinion is the uniqueness. It means that in Nordvpn’s database they have a record saying that the IP is uniquely associated with you, which means that in a way you are at a higher risk of your online activities being compromised in case that nordvpn gets hacked or gets any legal action against them
  4. tl;dr waste of money

The main reason to get a dedicated IP, aside from what others have stated, is if you want to watch streaming services from overseas. The major streaming services block or attempt to block VPN IP addresses, so having your own means that it’s less likely to be blocked.

To oversimplify, you probably don’t need a dedicated ip address if you’re not hosting a website from your computer. There are a few other reasons for static IPs, like if you are running some other type of server, but that’s even less likely.

A static IP makes it easier for visitors to reach your website by typing in www.nameofyourwebsite.com. There’s a service called DNS that does the name to IP lookup for you, and this is significantly easier to manage if the IP isn’t changing all the time.

Legal action like what? I’m not to sure about cyber laws, but I thought they only work under panama’s jurisdiction so they can legally give the middle finger to any foreign law enforcement? Sorry if it’s worded weird.

Nord does NOT keep user logs so there is no record of what IP address connected to the dedicated server

I’ve had no problems (well one problem) with Nord streaming with both US and Canada IPs from Europe. My previous VPN (PIA) worked fine until about two months after I moved to Europe, at which point, it stopped allowing Netflix in its network. The one problem I had was with Netflix not streaming from one US server, I switched to another and it was fine. However, I can now stream from the one that had a problem.

you cant run server from behind nordvpn as they don’t pass traffic non-initiated by user, so the only use case would be to minimize amount of captchas/sites blocked by blacklisted IP - which can be fixed by changing vpn location most of times, so still useless.

Nord doesn’t offer port forwarding tho.
