Hi! I just got NordVPN yesterday and I was already an Avast Premium user. Although I have no issue with NordVPN on my Android phone (Avast not installed on it), it seems it is interfering with Avast Premium (or vice versa) on my Windows laptop.
I have tweaked a few things with NordVPN support, but at the end of the day, if I have both running at the same time, I can’t access any websites. I get a message that the site does not respond/times out. When I turn Avast off, all is back to normal and works just fine. I have created exceptions for NordVPN and greenlisted the app in Avast, to no avail.
Ideally, I would like to know how to fix this while keeping both services I paid for. Alternatively, if not possible, what would be the best full AV solution that would be compatible with NordVPN?
Many thanks!
Hey, I think that it is expected that these apps may interfere because the NordVPN app on Windows creates a separate network adapter so Avast possibly considers that as a data leak and completely blocks internet connection for that adapter. Have you tried altering between different connection protocols?
I thought it was the protocol as well as NordLynx seemed to be causing issues 100% of the time where OpenVPN (UDP) was more of a hit and miss, but now I think it might simply be Avast’s firewall. When I connect via VPN, Avast will prompt me to identify this network as trustworthy or untrustworthy. If I pick trustworthy, I seem to be good. The only drawback is I will have to toggle this switch everytime I connect to the VPN, which is a fair trade off for the added protection of NordVPN + Avast Premium.
Hope this can also help others troubleshoot similar issues.
