So I usually keep my iPhone in battery saver mode. I notice that whenever I first turn rhe screen on to the lock screen the “vpn” icon pops up like it’s just connected. I’ve also noticed that occasionally when I get to the app quickly after I initially start using it after 10-15 of inactivity I can see the app connect again.
I don’t have this issue when using Express vpn on the same device.
Does Nord disconnect after inactivity on iPhone or is this just due to battery saver? Cuz the phone does use data even when not actively in use so why would it stop connection
Edit: it’s worth noting that the “connection time” counter on the nord app does not reset and continues to count up even though it appears to disconnect
Edit 2: IT DOES IN FACT RESET THE CONNECTION TIMER
I believe it’s just the UI that’s updating the info about the current state, since the app was closed. The connection isn’t (and shouldn’t be) interrupted (as you said, the counter keeps going).
It started disconnecting yesterday.
I had this before - this is what they said :
Please try switching the connection protocol to TCP. It can be changed in the NordVPN application settings.
Within the iOS NordVPN application open the settings menu (upper right corner) > VPN connection > Protocol > OpenVPN (TCP).
If that does not resolve the issue, to help us solve it faster, please provide us with some additional information.
It actually reset the counter since i posted this and I never disconnected the app. I’ve sent a message to Nord support as well for insight
I had this problem before so I switched to express cuz I had someone with some extra connections they were willing to give me. But this has been an issue for like 3 months or so for me. Do we know if it’s actually disconnecting from the vpn or what is actually going on?
Let us know what you find out! Theoretically, VPN apps are just clients that use underlying OS functionality connection-wise, so it should operate pretty similarly across all VPN apps in that sense.
So far I have only had this happen on an Google TV OS. It seems stable on my Android phone. I’ll be checking my other devices later.
Hm interesting, can you try it on a battery saver functionality as well and see what happens?
No problem with normal battery saver. Cannot run at all on extreme battery saver. Android pixel 6.
The disconnect problem appears to be resolved on my Google TV, CCwGTV and Android TV devices. This may have been related to Nord servers in Buffalo NY. Not sure. No problem with NYC or Toronto. I had problems (speed) with Buffalo (closest) a few years ago.
I think Nord on iPhone/pad is still pretty new. I can’t test it on my iPhone or iPad or I would. Those belong to my employer.
I’ve been using Nord for about 5 years and it’s been >99% solid for me.
