New to ProtonVPN - Spectrum Cable Not Playing Nice

Hello,

So I just bought a ProtonVPN subscription Wednesday and configured the VPN Client module in my Asus router to go through Proton, and then found that spectrum cable no longer streamed, on the phone or tablet.

My assumption was that Spectrum validated me by the cable modem’s MAC address and not by IP. Am I looking at a choice between Spectrum and ProtonVPN?

Thanks

Many streaming services block, or attempt to block, known VPN IP addresses. You may try switching to a different server to see if that works.

I have Spectrum and use both their Spectrum app and the traditional cable box.

Their app uses IP to verify you are within Spectrum’s network (a Spectrum customer) to unlock more channels (license agreement with TV channel providers). The app will not work AT ALL if it detects a VPN. For example, I use ProtonVPN on my phone, and the app will not work unless I disable the VPN or enable split tunneling and send the Spectrum app traffic outside of my VPN.

See if your Asus router supports split tunneling and if you can get the destination IPs that the Spectrum app uses you may be able to get around it.

Make sure you’re connecting to a streaming server. In the ProtonVPN app, you can see a list of servers with various little icons next to them. Make sure you’re connecting to a server with the streaming icon.

Thank you. I’ll try that approach.
