No matter what country I connect to, all the same shows show up, i’ve tried it on my phone and my tablet, can’t watch other region shows. (Im in the UK)
Are you using OpenVPN UDP as the connection protocol in your Nord settings? If not, make sure you are. You should always be using this setting for streaming.
Force stop and clear cache on the Netflix app before changing to your desired vpn server.
Before you open the Netflix app, open an incognito tab on your device and go to Netflix dot com. Check the URL to see what region it’s detecting. It will be something like netflix dot com/tr-en. In this example, tr stands for Turkey. Search Google for 2 letter country codes if you’re not sure of the one you want.
Once you’ve seen Netflix in a browser is detecting the correct region, try again with the app.
If that doesn’t work, go to unogs dot com. Highly recommend this site anyway as you can search the global Netflix catalog for stuff you want to watch.
Click on the menu icon in the top right and search for the movie/show you plan on watching. Once you find what you wanted, click on it from the search results, then click on the “watch now” button.
Unogs has a feature that tries to force open the content in your Netflix app. Well, it’s not really a “feature” it’s just a direct link to the exact piece of content that you want and it defaults to open in the app.
Sometimes it takes a couple of tries (closing Netflix and clearing cache, choosing a new Nord server, then clicking watch now again) before it works, but if first steps fail, it’s your best option.
Thank you for the detailed post. I’ll go through all of this and give it a go
Okay I’ve just tried this, it turns out the regions have changed, but I think Fresh prince of bel air was removed from the region I was watching it on (Italy). But the region changings have been working. Thank you for this info, I’ve been using OpenVPN TCP all this time, using UDP now

You say that one should always use open vpn udp for streaming. Does that apply to all streaming apps? And if so, what are the benefits please?
No problem, glad it worked for you.
In case you haven’t seen it, you can usually tell that you’ve successfully switched regions in the app by scrolling down the Netflix home page until you see the “Top 10” list. It will usually say something like “Top 10 in X today,” with X being the region.
It doesn’t always show this list for some reason, but most of the time it’s there, and it’s a good indicator.
Another way to tell is by searching the content you want on unogs and then checking your Netflix app to see if you can access it.
Just found the answer to udp protocol. Thanks for the heads up.
Yep, great advice man! Will keep that in mind
No problem. If you have a sold internet connection and stream often, it’s worth it to keep your Nord apps on OpenVPN UDP all the time. Keep in mind you have to change that setting on each device you want to stream from.
I’ve used Nord with BBC iPlayer, Channel 4, ITV, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney, HBO Max, and Hulu over the past several years with OpenVPN UDP and almost never have issues.
You can use something like wireguard (Nordlynx) when you want to use a VPN for non-streaming purposes and need faster speeds.
Many thanks. I have just spent the last 45 minutes changing the protocol from nord lynx to udp and recommended. And the speeds on vpn to Singapore,UK are all the same.
I then tried the same protocols on Stremio, with mixed results.
I am a little confused by udp, Google states that it is faster. But you say nord lynx is faster.
Just looking for clarification. But thank you for your helpful comments.
Isn’t prime video region locked based on your Amazon account?
Nord has a write-up on their site too. I think, unfortunately, with VPNs, there’s a good amount of misinformation out there.
OpenVPN is an older technology so it’s slower, but for some reason it’s harder to detect for streaming purposes.
Don’t use recommended for streaming. It will just give you whichever protocol so sometimes you’ll get OpenVPN and streaming will work and sometimes you’ll get something else and it won’t work.
If you just want to do some reading, search for OpenVPN vs Wireguard.
Nordlynx is just Nords own name for Wireguard, which is the actual name of the protocol.
I have a US Prime account that I use from outside the US video.
If I forget to turn my VPN on, it shows a message that says something about traveling outside the US so not all content is available or something like that.
Not sure if they add the content of the other region or not. I feel like at some point, I used it from Germany w/ out VPN and saw some German stuff on there, but it’s been a while, so I might be misremembering.
Thank you for your explanation. Think I will try out udp.
Been running UDP all day on various streaming apps. So far no issues, but vpn speeds around the same as Nord Lynx.
The one big difference in loading speed was on Stremio links. But I will try again this evening, just in case there are more people streaming on Stremio.
