Hey all, really confused about what’s going on. My computer keeps directing me to the Netherlands versions of websites even though I’m in the US. I thought it was just Chrome, but it’s like this on Safari, too. My region says United States when I go into Settings for my computer. I have no VPN active on my computer (it is disabled at the moment). I just updated to Monterey thinking it would solve the problem, but it’s still there.
I don’t just want to switch the region, I want my current region to be correct. How do I fix this?
TIA!
Sounds like a VPN or proxy issue if you’ve already checked your timezone, region, and language preferences thoroughly. Your VPN is doing more than it appears to be doing on the surface, which is par for the course for VPNs. A VPN is only as good as the company who runs it. Which service did you go with?
Try connecting your VPN to a location in the US, turning it off, and see if the issue still persists
Check your browser language or regions. Google sometimes gets set to browse in a specific country, or your google search settings.
You Mac caught ‘dutch disease’ - LOL
System Preferences → Langauge & Region
In a Safari search bar type, ‘whats my timezone’ what do you get?
Because your ISP is providing IP based in Netherlands for whatever reason.
I have NordVPN. Thanks, I will try to do that
Update: it worked! Thank you so much
I checked, it says I’m in the United States
It says “Midden-Europese zomertijd”
No problem! Glad it worked
For future reference, this is one of the worst places to get actual technical computer advice. I’d recommend the more niche subs
So to the internet it looks like you’re in a European country. Even though this problem started before you installed Monterey let’s disable one of it’s new features to eliminate that as a source of the problem and see what happens.
In iCloud settings disable ‘Private Relay’ and do the test again. Post your results.
Zomertijd… Dutch for Summer time
Did you fix the time zone?
I was able to fix it by connecting and disconnecting my VPN from the US, but if it happens again I will try this!
Yes! I did what another user suggested and turned my VPN back on with a connection to the US, then disconnected it, and it fixed the problem
