I’m very poor, so I can’t afford to renew, and I heard Windows Defender is easily bypassable, so this makes me worry. Can someone shed some light for me? Be my salvation?
If you’re torrenting stuff and doing sus things, yes defender may bypass things.
If your internet hygiene is good and don’t do the things above, defender is more than capable.
Windows defender is more than enough for most people. Unless there’s a reason that you specifically would be targeted for a hack, windows defender will be fine
Just use Windows Defender and harden your browser with uBlock Origin, Decentraleyes, Privacy Badger and I still don’t care about cookies. Be careful of the files you download and the websites you visit. If you’re torrenting or doing sussy stuff, make sure that you do it from trustworthy and reputable sites. (Hint: a certain SubReddit I am not allowed to name can help you find reputable sites for torrenting and similar practices) Scan any suspicious link on ScanURL and any suspicious file on VirusTotal or Metadefender. Additionally, you can install the suspicious file on a Windows virtual machine first if you want to reassure yourself. Furthermore, Check out Linux, you might love it and find a distro that suits you and have a safe digital life.
Just get the free version of Kaspersky
Move on to some software that ain’t Russian.
Windows Defender is pretty decent. Though if your file has no malware application but it links to another host via DLL files then Windows Defender will crumble and you’ll be infected with info-stealers. Its usually common when downloading from really shady pirated sites.
Though I’d recommend Bitdefender. Since they have a feature where you can scan any individual file/exe/dll on my pc. And a pretty good full system scan. Free version is plenty good. Avast does the same thing too.
I dunno, I use Kaspersky Cloud Free. I do so much torrents and such, nothing ever happened to me yet.
you can reset the trial there is a tutorial in youtube
Bitdefender has a free version with the occasional pop up…but it’s good! It’s what I recommend
You can use kaspersky free
Any AV is bypassable, they are all using the same signature database anyways.
I would dig deeper into windows security. Disable cmd and .bat files, enforce script execution policy to remote signed, configure applocker. If you have time to fine-tune windows security, you don’t need Kaspersky. There are a lot of resources online to find out how to do this.
Also I would recommend you always have backup of your important data. On an external drive (or even usb) and some free cloud provider like google drive.
Win Defender is good. use it about 4 years with torrenting and no problems
Trend Micro’s basic AV product is only $20 per year. Their Web Reputation database will protect you from being able to go to malicious websites.
They also have a website that you can use for free to check a website’s reputation.
Step 1. Ask reddit.
Step 2. Install a free anti-virus. There’s plenty, for example Kaspersky, AVG, Avira…
I’ve been using Bitdefender for free for years. They recently made it slightly more annoying but all you gotta do is just make new emails every 30 days
I would just switch over to a free version if I can’t afford it.
Bitdefender is a #1 choice (it has a free version).
Sure, it does not come with a lot of features such as a VPN, password manager, cloud storage etc, but it does the job in terms of protection you from malware.
And to the last, yes Microsoft Defender is easily bypassable, and is not a reliable option if you want to feel safe.
Switch to Windows defender
It should pretty much protect you from anything that would happen during normal web browsing, And if you’re doing things like pirating stuff you honestly just kind of have to learn the tips and tricks for finding safe files and that’s something that’s a bit much to explain in this thread
The amount of closed minded people here is unreal… They see something “russian” and deem it unsafe…
Get the free version of Kaspersky mate.
