Priority of features:
- Security
- Speed
- Simplicity (would prefer something with as little configuration as possible as I will be sharing with my less technically inclined family members)
- Cost (not really a concern unless the price is exorbitant. I am perfectly happy with paying $100 a year for peace of mind)
From what I have read so far, AirVPN is the most secure and NordVPN is the best overall (at least the most popular). Security is tantamount as I have already gotten a notice from my ISP. I would appreciate any input, even if it is just to confirm my findings.
I will just inputs the VPNs I have used/ been using.
NordVPN, it has improved a lot last a few months (speed wise) and audit has proven no logs so seems very okay. It just they are not really transparent about where they really based at. Provide a very simple app for a non-techy person. Torrenting is fine too.
Mullvad, my all-time favorite, windows/linux app is straight forward and it just works. But for mobile, it doesnt have proprietary app so you have to use OpenVPN for Android/Connect. The reason I ditched them is it only provides 5 max connection per account. Torrenting is allowed on all servers. Plus you get wireguard.
VPN.ac, not very well-known, some logging for 24 hours but not browsing data. Speed is very good and I have no problem with torrenting as well. Got them during BF deal @ $48 for 2 years. So far experience has been rock solid. Wireguard is in the work too. App is nice too but not as nice as nordvpn but that is totally subjective.
Windscribe, very well-known, purchased lifetime account to use as my secondary VPN and it provides unmlited number of devices. Torrenting is allowed on most servers. Speed wise, not very consistent but it works most of the time. Unless they really put more servers and improve speeds, I don’t recommend them yet. My assumption is they already oversold lifetime accounts and during peak hours, speed is quite unacceptable.
Mullvad works great, supports Wireguard as well.
100 a year gets you either expressvpn… airvpn… or ivpn… and at that price… you can expect everything to work… netflix… bbc… hulu… etc… etc…
I would like to recommend Slickvpn. Provides secured connections and blazing speeds. It is priced at $10 a month.
You can look into Anonine.
Cheaper than those two but in same quality(my experience).
You can either opt for SlickVPN or UE, both provide good speed, security and are easy to set up. But I personally recommend SlickVPN as I have been using it for almost a year and I am pleased with its incredible speed.
When it comes to speeds, Slickvpn is the fastest I’ve seen. Talking about security, no vpn is 100% secure.
You can try out Slickvpn. I have been using it for a long time now. VPNs are not 100% reliable but still it provides secured connections.
What vpn did you end up using?
I heard that NordVPN sales or tacks your movements. When I find the like I’ll be sure to share it here.
Thanks for sharing! Its interesting to hear about the lesser known ones, and I appreciate the input on windscribe. I like the idea of a lifetime account…should add that to my list
100 isnt necessarily a limit, and I hadnt even considered compatibility with those sites! thanks
Ditto. I signed up for the yearly plan and it only works out to be $4/month
SlickVPN. Hit all of the above 4 requirements
I very much appreciate the investigative journalism. Thank you!
well… its the ‘happy spot’ i dont know of a single ‘good’ vpn that costs more than 99… i only know of a few decent ones less than it
It ain’t my work, all respects go to the one who did it. I just past it along because I was once in your shoes too.
