Maple WiFi - Legit or Scam

Has anyone ever heard of this company? It seems too good to be true and can’t find much else about them online.

I’m in Northen Gatineau and I just received my device (Fedex was the sloweest factor in delivery times). MapleWifi sent me a confirmation email with tracking. Support has answered my questions within the next hour (email). Advices were great how to set it up optimally. I was able to set up the router on Bell towers as they are closer. Speed are 65/15Mbs.

Overall, this is sky above DSL!!

Thank you MapleWifi!

One week Update.
Getting good speed and ping, but very inconsistant banwith. speedtest is bringing good result half of the time, and half of the time is less than 5Mbs, Bringing a webpage might take 20 sec… weird

So, I had held off on answering here since I wanted to wait until I had testing done.

So, in Canada. speeds very based on city and even in what area in the city.

But, I get average of 30 down/10 up in my house.

Driving around outside (in my truck) I get anywhere from 20-70 download to 10-30 upload.

Now, I just got back from Watertown New York, and once I hit NY state, I was getting upwards to 100 download and 30 upload!

I even in Syracuse hit over 250 download!

Wifi could be better, as it’s sometimes flaky but if you use a router attached to it and use the wifi on that, you will be golden.

Just an update for you guys,
It took 3 weeks for them to cancel my first order due to lack of routers in stock. After 4 emails over 3 weeks, the only email I got was telling me my order had been cancelled due to lack of supplies and that I could reorder the new router if I wanted too.

I ordered the new router, emailed them my extreme disappointment in this customer service bullshit, and that I expected the router via FedEx in a few days.

I received their new router in the mail within 2 days. Nighthawk. The router was completely bricked, stuck in boot loop upon starting up. I emailed them for a replacement, briefly explained the problem and that I had been on the phone with Netgear (maker of the router) and they told me I needed a replacement. They replied within 5 minutes, they replied with some tips on how to unbrick the router. I replied immediately, basically saying I’ve tried all that and the company of the router told me I needed a replacement, so send me a replacement.

After not receiving a reply, and having the shit customer service history of not replying I got frustrated. I did not receive an email the next day, so I sent them other. Next day, no reply. So I sent them another. Etc etc until the 7th day of no reply. They sent me an email stating they did not want me to be their customer and they were issuing me a full refund.

This is the company you’re dealing with. They get offended when customers get angry due to their lack of customer service. 600 for a router and services isn’t cheap. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I really need high speed Internet so I gave it a try (and my credit card number).I first wrote and asked if my location is covered, I already have Rogers Network so the answer was positive but I wanted to make sure. They also wrote me it’s 2-4 days delivery with FedEx.

After a few days of waiting, I noticed on the Portal that my plan had already begin even if I didn’t receive anything. They didn’t send me any tracking number neither. I wrote back but didn’t get any reply. I was worried with that $318 charge on my Visa.

After a week of waiting, I wrote back to ask for full refund as they give 7 days trial. They finally wrote back a few times, sent me a tracking number with USPS and Canada Post, seems like my package is stucked at the border for inspection since last friday (holidays I guess).

They confirmed that the 7 days trial will start the day after delivery and the billing cycle will be adjusted based on delivery (hopefully at 189$ a month!!).

I’ll keep you guys updated when I’ll receive and try the device but I get almost 80 Mbps with Rogers here so hopefully I found a proper solution for my Internet problem.

I ordered the hub on Dec 17th 2020, today is December 30th and I still have nothing from them except tracking numbers that don’t work! I hope my desperation for wifi has not lead me down a dark miserable road of unhappiness :frowning:

Guarantee they using AT&T sims just like all the other fly by nighters. I’m sure it’s same guys, just with a new name. Search Rural Canada Wireless in here, and you’ll have your answers.

The sim cards are pin enabled. You can not use the sim in another device.

The M1100 firmware is non stock. Flash the M1100 it to stock via dft and the sim asks for a pin to unlock.

They won’t give you the firmware they use.

They won’t give you pin to unlock the sim.

They did offer to ship another one. (Been 8 days at time of posting and the tracking number given, still waiting for FedEx to receive the package)

While I had the service. It was ok, the USA ip… well I got around that using a VPN with a Canadian location using my pfsense router.

Zero port forwarding ability CG-NAT

Cell towers, this is a must know. Source your cell tower locations. I had to buy a LTE booster. Then a T9 to SMA and then a SMA to RG6/coxal adapter. To wire the M1100 external antenna to the booster. I get 15/15 Mbps. This is due to what cell towers in the area provide. Prior to getting the booster near clearing the tree line. My LTE was 0.2/1.

Something to think about when your not in a city.

Support was reasonable, took better part of the day going back n forth with questions and answers.

While I haven’t heard of these guys before, selling mobile hotspots connected to LTE isn’t new. Wineguard is another company that sells the exact same service. Latency is sometimes an issue and it would depend on where cell towers are located, if your traveling, then it’s a non issue. It’s like the slightly cheaper version of satellite internet or services in rural areas. Pretty sure Telus and Rogers/Fido still sell mobile hotspots as well but the price is rather high and they still have caps on data, but YMMV. $120 for the hardware and $190/ month isn’t cheap…lol

Well, they certainly are TERRIBLE communicators. I paid for the equipment and 1 month service 5 days ago. They say it will be shipped in 2 business days and I have heard nothing. I sent 2 emails and no answer. I needed a solution fast so thought this would be it. Just hoping I did not make a big mistake!

Just came here myself to figure it out. Looks like they piggy back off of Rogers. I contacted Rogers and the CS had no clue about the company. I have googled it and checked Facebook. The only thing that comes up is their site and this post…Doesn’t make me very comfortable sending a credit card. We are just getting desperate. Nothing available in our rural area…we need to be 1km this way or 1km that way. Very annoying.

Yeah. I came here for same thing. No phone number, no address and not even a contract…?

I wish they would just sent the device with FedEx as discussed and advertised on their website but they didn’t.

Yeah just looked into them as well, they say I would have a great connection since I’m beside a rogers tower. Inquired about bulk purchasing to change a bunch of our xplornet plans but rethinking that now.

I’m sure it will work good till Rogers gets wise to massive traffic increase and cuts their service off.

Has anyone found new information? Making a move to a Rural area (just barely rural) and the best option there is the Bell Wireless Home Internet. However when I was there I was getting good speeds on my rogers phone.

Hey OP, have you had any luck with maple? Was considering it as well but now I’m nervous

The website looks exactly like RCW. I would guess they are the same company. Mind you at this time I am still using RCW!

I bit the bullet because I was insanely desperate for internet as I will be working for home for a few weeks.

I got the package today, and I’m getting a steady 30-40 mbps.

Really hoping someone will do a test using www.Speedtest.net So we can tell what sort of latency to expect. If this is like RCW than I understand the traffic is routed through California which adds too much latency to people not on the west coast.

I’m so happy these companies keep popping up. They are like the Robin Hood of the Canadian internet world. The Canadian government has been dragging their ass on fixing the rural internet issue for so long!! My RCW is still going wrong and I plan on keeping it until I get a Starlink invite.
