I have a dedicated Mac mini running qbittorent. I access this Mac mini using Apple’s built-in screen-share functionality from a second Mac.
My issue is, I want to enable the kill switch on the Mac mini when running qbittorrent but in doing so, cannot access the computer via screen-share.
So my questions are:
- is binding qbit to ProtonVPN sufficient?
- do I just have to wait for split tunneling to become available so I can use my preferred workflow?
I’m making the move over from Mullvad in which I could achieve the above.
Binding your torrent client to Proton VPN is sufficient for it not to use a P2P connection outside the VPN tunnel.
Connecting qBittorrent to ProtonVPN should work as a basic answer, but when it comes out, split tunneling will give you more options. It’s possible that until then you’ll need to find a way to combine protection and access from afar.
Some people run “Docker”, unsure if it’s available on mac. But essentially you could have a Virtual Machine inside your Mac, running qbit and VPN, while allowing your regular host machine regular internet, or even, a seperate vpn connection. And to access each, you just swap desktops so you can have your preferred workflow. I don’t use this, so I am unsure, but the r/piracy megathread may have some answers. Shoot, you may even be able to just straight up use a virtual machine from VMWare or Oracle. Until split tunneling, this may be the best option to split everything up.
I’m a Proton subscriber who just switched from a PC to a Mac, intending to use Qbit for occassional torrenting.
Can you please link a “how to” to bind Proton VPN and Qbit on Mac please?
Please confirm: once I bind the torrent client to Proton VPN, will this bond remain in spite of my computer reawakening or re-starting?
Is the sufficient safety of binding torrent client to Proton VPN the reason why Proton hasn’t included the same one-click port option on the MacOS app, in spite of the amount of Mac-users who use Proton requesting parity between operating systems?
How much better/safer is it to torrent with Proton on PC compared to Mac?
Thanks in advance
Thanks for answering. This was helpful.
