Speedtest.net uses Ookla, so I was pretty surprised to see this on Cox’s speed test. Does this mean that they’re pretty much the same test? I’d imagine it’s the same amount of accuracy considering they both have “Ookla” watermarked. What do you guys think?
What do you mean by ‘VPN’s accuracy’?
Most VPNs provide compression, and most speed tests use easily compressible data, so most speed tests are not accurate on a VPN. This speaks nothing to the security or encryption of the VPN.

Sometimes it is hard to measure the real speed of VPN. For instance, the VPN might compress your data to save bandwidth and the file has easily compressed giving SpeedTest the illusion the speed is faster. Also the ISP might have difficulty policing the data encryption because of the public/symmetrical encryption protocols that are being used through VPN connection. I heard that testmy.net gives more reliable result than SpeedTest by sending some random data. I think it worth giving it a shot.
That’s what I was asking :). A couple representatives of PIA on here said that to get a more “accurate” result, you should use something like the Cox speed test.
Use the speed tests from the sidebar.
are you using your VPN to torrent?
Simply start a well seeded torrent (Linux distros’ are usually good for this) and see how much speed you get.
