No. If you need different people to use the service, it needs different accounts. At least for now.
Provide them a Wireguard configuration file to be used with official Wireguard app. Look up Proton settings and KB.
You could just log into the VPN app and leave it logged in. That doesn’t give them access to your email.
Though it would still be nice to have a different login for VPN.
You can set a second mailbox password in your protonmail settings.
That’s why Proton offers Family plans.
I think a second password or mailbox password would be useful in this case.
VPN access only requires a master password, not a second password or mail password.
Notes:
- Email, Drive, Pass require a second password but VPN does not
- Find out information on Proton’s blog about second passwords/mail mailbox passwords
Yes with the second password feature, you can login to proton vpn and your proton account with the main password but can only decrypt or view the emails and password of proton pass when you use the second password
Or just personally login in their device to proton vpn and call it a day
I would like that too…
I don’t think that’s how it works. At least it hasn’t been my experience in iOS and Mac OS. My wife’s phone has the VPN installed with my login. If I open her ProtonMail app when she’s logged out of her account, it’ll ask for the login info. The VPN app doesn’t have a direct link to any of the other services, not in iOS and not in Mac OS.
ProtonPass is a different story, at least in Mac OS while using Firefox, but I only tried it for a couple of months.
And I would also like separate logins.
Yes you can set 2 passwords mode in Proton settings.
I have resigned from using protonVPN because of this. Using the same credentials for two different services is just bad security practice, since I use VPN on shared devices where I don’t access protonmail.
Set up a VPN router (Wireguard or OpenVPN) for network wide always on VPN connectivity, then nobody needs apps on individual devices and nobody needs to log into anything.
Ya. A pin to open each service. They can be different

Yes, I’m looking into this.
Looking into this as well. Really think this is the way. Problem is, I spent $300 15 months ago on a new router that doesn’t support open/wireguard protocols. So is it worth it? Shit. Any recommendations on good routers for proton? I’ve read all the lists, jw from your first hand experience.
I couldn’t figure this out, a second password or pin works on both services (Windows) and they can not be different. I have asked Proton this twice and they have not answered. I don’t think it can be done. My concern is that if they use my login credentials for the vpn and they are the same for protonmail, then they also have access to my email. And that, I don’t want.
So i ahh. Idk what I was talking about. On my Mac / iPhone i can set a “pin” but the passwords are the same. In your case, that doesn’t do much good & I’d agree.
So I’m a dumbass & I’m wrong.
However. Sounds like you’re a paid user. Reach out to proton customer service, i guarantee they’ll answer you within 1-2 hours. But I’m curious now and feel I was incorrect, so let me know the outcome man.
No worries. I sent Proton a request and they confirmed it cannot be done.
Hi,
Thank you for contacting us.
Kindly note that the password is the same for all Proton services who are used by one account. Basically, Proton Mail and Proton VPN share the same login credentials.
However, we appreciate your feedback and support. We have forwarded the suggestion to our appropriate team.
Please note that we are looking closely to every suggestion our customers are reporting and try to implement it in the future updates to make Proton more user-friendly.
Do not hesitate to get back to us at any time if you need further assistance.
