Is It possible to have Spotify as an .AppImage file? On Manjaro Linux, and how do I Do It?
I don’t believe there is an AppImage for Spotify. There is a package in the AUR (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/spotify/).
I have a VPN and when i was using Spotify with Snap it fails and asked me about proxy configuration. I installed it with Flatpak and all goes perfect. I can just change my VPN location without troubles.
Depending on how much you want to dig into it, it might be possible. It looks like the underlying install is from a .Deb, so using something like GitHub - simoniz0r/deb2appimage: Build AppImages from deb packages on any distro with simple json configuration might be able to make it work how you’re asking.
But, of course, it would be much easier to just use the AUR, or just bite the bullet and use Snap. I believe the Snap is actually maintained and used by engineers on Spotify’s team.
I don’t think it’s available as a appimage but it is as a flatpak and manjaro is compatible with those out of the box, you just need to enable them in octopi’s settings then search for it.
You can also use the following command in the terminal
flatpak install flathub com.spotify.Client
touch spotify.AppImage
TA-DA!!!
You need to go to preferences and look through the menu and enable aur (I can’t tell you what menu as I don’t use Manjaro atm because I need software for job) once you do that you can just install Spotify
I had vpn problems with the aur package as well, I don’t like flatpak so I’ll stick with the web app in open.spotify.com it is just what I need, maybe you could find this way enough too.
Do you like using snap? It’s available as a snap package.
Edit, I don’t know how it works with a vpn though.
What’s wrong with Flatpaks tho?
I thought it was funny, but apparently I’m in the minority.
Snaps are destroying Ubuntu.
