Most Canadians I know use NordVPN. The latest updates have really made it a lot better compared to its previous versions. It goes on sale all the time too. It has a KillSwitch, Split Tunneling and a very clean user friendly interface.

Its okay as a throwaway VPN. It’s also relatively cheap (12 bucks a year iirc) but in would say it is far from stellar.
