Is a vpn useless at this point?

So ive been using NordVPN for the past few years. Been great to watch certain shows that arent available here in Canada, and just the added security for me personaly. So my dad wanted to be able to watch NHL games through amazon prime so he’s using my prime account with the sportsnet subscription through prime. Most of the teams he wants to watch the games for are “Regionaly blackout”. So i thought my vpn would be able to get around this, but it doesnt. Am i doing anything wrong here for it not to work? Hes using a firestick for prime with my nord account installed on it. Ive tried connecting to west servers, the states… nothing seems to work. Thx in advance.

I was able to do the same thing with ESPN+ here in the US. TV traffic is routed through special rules on my router to a NordVPN server in Atlanta which lets me watch my local team.

My phone however cannot watch them because they require GPS location, which sucks. Agree with commenter above, message support and they can help you find a newer server that isn’t IP blocked by Amazon.

Probably it detects you use a vpn, or your dns gets leaked. It’s also possible that the ip Adress you get from the vpn, are know by them as vpn isp.

I mostly buy a private residential ip for my vpn to trick them. And I use TCP protocol. With port 443. Then they don’t detect the vpn.

But maybe in your case it’s enough to set it to tcp and port 443. Then sometimes they can’t detect the vpn anymore. But I doubt it if you use public vpn ip that are shared with other users. Mostly you need to buy your own ip, and a residential ip is most likely to get detect.

It works fine for me on Netflix and Disney whom most seem to have issues with, so I can’t see Amazon Prime doing any better. Maybe it’s due to the fire stick?

Could you try running it on your phone or a PC?

On PC I use the chrome add-on and whenever Netflix does detect it, I just reconnect via the button and it’s fixed.

NordVPN IPs are notoriously known and thus easily detected and blocked.

Does Amazon use IP location for determining blackouts? Or is your home location determined through your account info?

I think there’s something in the speciality servers for help doing this, or there once was anyway.

Get you own Dedicated IP with extra money. That should unblock most of the thing.

Does spoofing your gps location not work? There are apps to change location, at least on android. I dont know if they can detect it tho.

Like, message nord vpn support for this? Would they actually help with that?

I tried on pc also and my phone, but no luck

I imagine it would work, haven’t tried as I have an iPhone

Yeah I think they can help find a newer server that hasn’t been blocked yet on services like Netflix, etc. I read it somewhere on their official documentation

Ya so i emailed support and their working with me to try and fix the issue
