Install VPN on Blocked WiFi (Chrome Browser Only)

You can use this method while on the computer that is connected to the blocked WiFi and it will work no problem.

Notes

- This will only work on Chrome as far as I know

- I have only tested this using SetupVPN as the VPN so I don’t know if others will work; HoxxVPN may also work

- All of these steps should be done in incognito mode. For some reason certain steps don’t work unless they’re in an incognito tab

- Any step done on the settings tab can’t be done in the incognito mode but that is alright

  1. Look up a VPN chrome extension (I used SetupVPN specifically, but others may also work)

  1. Copy and paste the chrome store link for the extension into crxdown.com. Even if you can’t open the page you can copy and paste the link directly from the google search page. This will download it to your computer.

When you press download if it says “ID invalid” or something like that, then you can just take the extension ID instead. The ID is just the jumble of letters at the end of the extension link. i.e.

Setup VPN chrome store link - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/setupvpn-lifetime-free-vp/oofgbpoabipfcfjapgnbbjjaenockbdp?hl=en-US

SetupVPN extension ID - oofgbpoabipfcfjapgnbbjjaenockbdp

  1. After the file has downloaded go to https://johankj.github.io/convert-crx-to-zip/. Drag and drop the downloaded file into the box on screen and download the .zip file. Extract the .zip file and afterwards then delete the .crx and .zip files.

  1. Go to the the extensions settings for google chrome (This will automatically open it in a regular window, that is fine). You can just type “chrome://extensions” into the search bar to get there.

  1. On the extensions settings screen turn on “developer mode” in the top right corner. After it is on three new buttons should appear at the top either to the left or middle. Click “Load Unpacked” and select the extracted file folder.

  1. The extension will be added to you browser and is usable.

Again, I used SetupVPN so I don’t know how effective any others will be or how they work; as far as I know the next step is exclusive to SetupVPN and is only necessary if you find that none of the free servers are working.

  1. Free servers are a hit or miss, For me they worked sometimes and didn’t others. However, the Public servers always worked for me. There are fewer areas and some sites may not work due to them not being available in that country but over all it was good, just try different countries.

Extension vpns are not vpns. They’re proxy

Well I said it’d only work in and on a chrome browser, so regardless of what it is it works. But if you meant it should be in r/proxy or something then my bad

Yup. It should be on r/proxy
