I'm using the VPN feature in Opera. However when I type in “where am I” in Google, the output reveals my correct location

My situation is weird, because at first when I get on YouTube I see Cyrillic script. Also, when I first get on Google, I’ll also see Cyrillic script, and I’ll test a query by typing “Where is my location?”.

How do I hide my location using Opera?

Be default VPN is deactivated in Google search. Change it in the settings.

opera://settings/?search=bypass and turn off “Bypass VPN for default search engines”

Not OP, but having the same issue.

It still is able to detect exactly where I am, whether I have it turned on or off.

What am I missing?

in Google settings or in Opera Setting?

Are you logged in to a Google account?

It’ll likely have you pegged down via data attached to that account.

Test it in a private window where you’re not logged into your Google account etc.

That’s exactly what it was. I knew it would be something obvious like that. Don’t know why I didn’t think of that.

Thank you much.

Technology is mighty complicated, it’s easy to miss things that seem obvious in hindsight.

There’s like hundreds of things to keep track of with even things that look simple, it’s a wonder the modern world works as smoothly as it does.
