I use OSX laptops and Windows desktops, but I’m primarily interested in Windows advice please.
I recently invested in a VPN (TorGuard). It’s great, except I only want to keep some of my traffic private. The rest I would rather not be encumbered by the VPN as my internet capacity is much higher than the VPN’s.
Does anyone have any solutions for configuring only specific programs to use the VPN? I was thinking it might be possible to set up a SOCKS proxy which routes traffic over the VPN, and configure my desired software to use that proxy. One wrinkle is that the provided TorGuard software seems to set up all traffic to run over the VPN.
I second the VM route. You could spend a ton of time figuring out IP routing tables, or just run your application in a VM and let all traffic from that VM be tunnelled.
I use an Asus router with Merlin firmware and Use TorGuard as well. With the Merlin firmware you can have Policy Rules that allow you to route only certain traffic to specific IP’s through the VPN.
