Hello, i recently bought a new windows 11 pc and now every time i connect to my wifi modem i got redirected to my ISP page and can’t use internet unless i sign up. This is quite a pain and i tried to change dns to 8.8.8.8 to resolve, but the problem still remain.
How can i fix that? I would also prefer if my ISP can’t see everything i do on the internet btw.
Oh last thing, while chsnging dns i coudn’t find the “dns over https” option, any idea why?
Thank you all in advance
An ISP using a captive portal to make you agree to the ToS is pretty standard and had nothing to do with DNS. They can blackhole your traffic until you sign in and agree and there’s likely no way around it.
It’s even more strange, i have an old portable modem i got with an ISP different from the one I’m using now and i got redirected to the modem’s ISP site which is different from my courrent ISP. I tried a fsctory reset on the modem and all but nothing changed
What do you mean by “portable modem”? A hotspot? In any case all this still has zero to do with DNS, and is a hardware and ISP service issue.
Yes an hotspot, well i guess it’s not a DNS problem, thnaks anyways.
At least with a DNS i get internet, before even thst was blocked by my old ISP
So it connects to cellular to provide WiFi? Did you move the service for it to your cellular carrier? Otherwise it’s still configured to talk to your old ISP. It doesn’t just “know” you’ve switched ISPs.
It’s a portable router, alcatel tplink 4g to be precise. I thought it’s still configured luke this too so the first thing I’ve done is a factory reset, but it didn’t work.
A factory reset doesn’t change the SIM information, or the device IMEI that identifies it on the cellular network. You need to take it into your cellular provider and have them move it to your account, if they even can. It may be service locked to your old ISP.
