How to fully disable the built-in VPN?

My bank app has recently blocked any and all VPNs from being able to connect.

I’ve disabled the VPN in the Google Fi app and made sure there was nothing active in my system settings.

Despite all of this I’m still unable to use the app because it thinks I’m using a VPN. Has anyone else had this problem? Any known fix?

If you don’t have the little key on the notification bar then the bank app has a bug.

Open Google Fi App > Privacy and Security > Protect your online activity. Toggle to off.

Also, opening settings and searching for vpn will allow you to select and disconnect Fi vpn.

I’d change bank’s.

If they are that anti-security minded who knows how they are keeping your information or money safe

Ran into the same issue with Fubo. Turn off VPN and it works fine. Then I had a hard time getting it reconnected. Only messed with it once though.

Try turning off mobile data and using just Wi-Fi only or vice versa.

How is the app showing the issue/notification?

Could it potentially be a DNS issue (are you using a non-default DNS)?

You can uninstall the Fi app to test–if you’ve already activated service, then it won’t do anything (other than disable automatic network switching, but that shouldn’t be a big deal to just test to see if it’s the issue).

Just on the off chance that you or someone else needs it , if you go into settings for Google VPN, you can select Pause VPN on selected network and add mobile network to the list and it will disable it.

Sounds like a crappy app. I own a house and have 4 bank accounts and don’t use a banking app. Banking apps are shady as fuck. If you have money and assets you don’t need an app for that.

I wish that were the case. According to tech support, they updated the app to block VPNs at the end of last year, which is when I stopped being able to access it.

Coincidentally, a website I used to frequent did the same thing around the same time and I’m still unable to access that either.

I’ve done those things to no avail. That’s why I’m trying to find an alternative solution.

Tried that but got the same result unfortunately. Thanks for the suggestion.

Bruh that’s just really dumb to say

Do this, go to Google on your phone and search “what is my ip” while on wifi. Then check it that is the public ip of your home router.

If you don’t want to test it from your home wifi, check the ip while on phone data and then search to see which company owns that ip.

What phone and version of Android are you using? If a VPN is enabled there should be a key icon in the same area as the WiFi and cell service icons on the top right of the notification area.

If there is no key icon, contact your bank about the issue.

Naw that’s silly. The same banks that block vpn also block access from new countries or even blanket bans for specific countries so how are you supposed to access your money when traveling? Drop the banks that pull that nonsense instead

I can log into all my accounts on my PC and phone while connected to a VPN. I have accounts with PNC, NavyFed, WellsFargo, MetLife, Amex, Citibank, HSBC, Citizens.

Then it’s probably the banking app. Weird.

I’ve got the Pixel 5 running Android 12 and there is no key icon in my right corner.

I’ve already contacted my bank which is how I found out about the VPN block. That’s why I came here for help because I’ve gone through their tech support already.

Well there’s no VPN active, so it’s surely an issue with the bank app.
