So I am european and I’m getting pretty frustated and tired of end game content with simingly constant 150 ping. I can’t stand to be flamed because I can’t dodge shit in Titan EX anymore, it’s literally not possible to dodge the plumes if you have 1 chance out of 2 to die even tho you move right when he casts it and you’re prepared for it.
So far I’ve tried WTFast(paid), which doesn’t improve my ping at all or something like gaining 20 ping which is ridiculous and tried a huge number of VPN’s, which does absolutely nothing at all and followed this guide Anyone else in the same situation would want to give out some advices ?
Edit : It seems some of you think I suck at getting out of plumes. I’ll try to record what I mean by latency issue and post it tomorrow or tonight.
Most people in NA get around 80-90 ms as a standard. If you’re having trouble dodging with 150 ms ping it’s more likely that you’re losing data packets then the lag of the game.
200 ping from Argentina, if you are having problems dodging AoE’s and such its probably not the latency. Check if you are losing data packets, if not then git gud scrub
ermm… I play at 320-360ms and never had issues I keep hearing people talk about lag and stuff, and I don’t really understand how 150ms is bad.
I tried WTFast/BP it lowered to 240-260ms but then again, paying or not, I don’t notice much of a difference.
Yes I would get hit by titans plumes or anything else but that barely happens. It would be nice for the servers to be closer, but maybe I just got used to knowing when to dodge and time stuff
In the meantime if you are a ranged dps you can try standing all the way in the back while everyone else is stacked immediately behind titan. That way, not only will you only get hit with one plume if you can’t manage to get out of the way, but you can even be already running left/right before the plumes even appear (assuming you know the rotation perfectly). It’s annoying and definitely shouldn’t be necessary but it’s possible.
I play mainly on ps4 with a solid state drive. I started the game on ps3 which had a normal hdd and I did notice when I upgraded that things like ground aoe showed up noticeably sooner with the more advanced hardware and ssd. I have a good internet connection so it was manageable on ps3 and now is quite easy by comparison on ps4. But, I could imagine with a bad ping on ps3 that there could be some serious issues. So my question is, do you play on a computer that runs the game smoothly (decent frame rate) and has an ssd?
I have seen and heard a lot of examples that lowering your graphics on Titan EX will help, and it have simply to do with the plumes. In my experience when you stack as a group behind titan and the plumes spawn they will all be stacked aswell and lower the frames for a second because of the lighting/shader engine.
Now there are a lot of people who might not experience this, but if you feel you can’t dodge the plumes try and lower your graphics.
Also Titan EX is a sequenced based fight, and I’ve managed to do the fight with an increased high ping just by starting to move at the time I know the plumes would spawn. Ofcourse that can be tricky to know the timing if you haven’t done the fight a 1000 times, but if you pay attention they appear pretty fast after the stomps.
Unless you have packet loss, it’s definitely a player issue. I play from europe on a US server(not that it matters since all servers are in canada anyway, including the EU ones) and the only time I get hit by weights is when I move too late or when someone was on the side and drop a weight where I’m going so I get hit by that one(but only one so whatever, easy to heal through it).
If you’re getting hit, the most likely issue is you’re simply not moving soon enough. Do note that animations aren’t perfectly synced with position/damage checks. Especially damage/healing in this game has a weird delay so you’ll get hit almost a full second after the hit has actually registered, so by that time you will be out for sure unless you’re sleeping, but you were still in it by the time it checked.
Learn the rotation and get ready to move early or even move early(might get people hit though if you move too soon, but by a single one).
No VPN will ever be able to solve the problem of being far from the servers physically, unless they break the laws of physics.
The only way to solve that problem is to move to Canada/US or wait until SE decides to open up servers in other countries.
As for Titan, you might need to memorize the rotation and move before you even see the attack on your screen. I don’t think 150ms is THAT bad though, so improving your reaction time should be enough.
How close is the server your playing on? The further away you are from your server the higher latency you’re going to get and there’s literally nothing you can do about it. It’s a physical distance that data has to travel there and back.
From your computer, start pinging the IP address of all these servers until you find one with a lower latency and move to that server. http://www.arrstatus.com/
As a European, you should be playing on the Euro servers. 150ms sounds about right for connecting to a US server. Hell, the latency from the east coast to the west coast in america is about 100 to 120ms.
One thing that can help out a lot, is having some kind of instant cast spell ready every time you need to move. The game doesn’t update your position as often as it should really, but you can force it to update by using an instant cast.
When the AoE marker appears on the ground, start running, as soon as you are out of it, hit the instant cast, and you should be fine. Im playing from the UK, getting around 120ms, but because of the the slow update ticks the server runs, everything feels sluggish, as if my ping is 300+.
I usually have very high ping and packet loss even though I’m close to the servers (just my bad internet connection). I found I have the best dodge chance if I continue moving until the spell has finished casting. If the last packet carrying my movement info gets dropped, I’m still moving, so it’ll send another asap which will hopefully get there before the spell goes off. Or at least, that’s my rational for why I seem to dodge better if I keep moving until the spell has gone off.
Playing from North-East Europe, constant latency of 140-160. Never felt the need for a VPN, my connection is good and stable. Leatrix fix seemed to help when I turned it on a year ago, but then again a year ago the servers were a mess for everyone.
