How do I get rid of Avira Antivirus?

What a mistake of a antivirus. Instead of installing a antivirus I might of installed a virus, This shit is trash and I want get to get rid of it, I uninstalled it yet every time I download something it says some stupid ‘‘LUKE FILEWALKER RUNNING SCAN’’ and it’s really annoying I can’t even delete the files because it says I don’t have permission, I even tried installing another antivirus to delete the antivirus but it just didn’t work. Please help it’s driving me crazy.

From what you’ve written, you don’t seem to have tried to uninstall Avira, only install another AV. First go to Windows Control panel and try to uninstall Avira as normal, then reboot and open Windows Security, if it shows you all of Defender’s scans and features, Avira has likely been successfully removed.

If you still struggle to remove Avira, your other alternative is to open Windows System Restore and check if you have a restore point ‘before’ Avira was installed. Windows will show you which applications will be removed or reinstalled for each restore point. Choose one that shows that Avira will be uninstalled.

Make a note of what other programs are affected, then choose the relevant restore point and allow Windows to complete the process and reboot. You may need to reinstall the programs changed by the restore point.

I can understand why the other poster suggested what they did, but if you’ve not actually tried to uninstall Avira as yet, it could make things messier.

Go into your task manager startup programs and turn off Avira programs. Also go into the Registry Editor and delete Avira security keys. This is what most likely prevents you from deleting Avira files. MAKE SURE THEY ARE AVIRA KEYS!!! If you delete the wrong key it can render your system unusable. Sometimes there is no security key just delete the registry key completely. I suggest you lookup Avira registry keys before deleting anything.

(I did this for Bitdefender and it worked fine, but please cautious.)

And yes, Avira’s scanner IS called Like Filewalker.

I finally get to get rid this rubbish avira free version. Not only it fked up my security settings, it auto quarantine some of my working apps and unable to restore it. The trick is to reboot to safe mode, go to the avira folder in program files x86 and go in each of the ridiculous folder the stupid avira install by itself, aka the vpn and all other BS software and find for the uninstall icon and remove it manually before removing avira (leave it for the last one) and make sure go to task manager and make sure avira security is not running. Then run the uninstall exe in the avira security folder itself and BAM! the stupid avira is finally uninstall without problem.

Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if OP did try to uninstall Avira. I sure have. Fun fact, it doesn’t work. You really have to go through the registry to get rid of this garbage.

Yes. I foolishly tried it out a couple of years ago, and every AV after it complained they detected the Avira browser extension, I’d removed.

Avira, wouldn’t be my first, second, or third choice!
