How Do I Disable the "Always-on" VPN On Chromebook?

I’ve been trying to figure out how to disable the “always-on” VPN on my Chromebook. I’ve gone into my network settings and selected VPN only to find that the “Always-on” VPN is inaccessible to be disabled. Is there a SAFE workaround I can do? The reason I want to disable it is because certain apps won’t function properly or at all because of the “always-on” VPN. My other VPNs are disconnected and my settings say I’m disconnected from VPNs, however, my “always-on” VPN seems to be still connected. I’ve tried clicking on it and nothing happens. Please help.

Is this a managed Chromebook for work or school?
That sounds like a setting that’s being pushed, not a default ChromeOS setting.

Now that I think about it I think it might be the fact that I did get it from my college when I attended classes and needed a laptop. I have since graduated and am using it for personal use. Though the fact that I did get it from my school might be the reason it has that setting. So either I find a safe workaround (if possible) or I save up for a new Chromebook.

Maybe contact the college and ask if they can remove enrollment from your Chromebook? They may be happy to free up the license used when it was enrolled/managed.

Are you signing in with a school account still?

You can also try powerwashing the Chromebook. If it was originally device managed, but the school released it, the only way to remove the management is to wipe the device. If it was released the management will not reactivate.

Depending on your privacy or security needs please remember that it is possible all your network access i.e websites etc MAYBE available for the college.

No, I never set it up or signed into it with a school account. I used my primary personal Gmail account to set it up and sign into it.

Try wiping the device then with a powerwash.
