Help with VPN on Smart Tv

Hello
I recently bought a smart tv and I live in a foreign country. The main motive for buying VPN was to enjoy the streaming content from the home country. But after using trial version of a VPN provider, i found that most of the smart tv now doesn’t support VPN apps in their app store. What are my options? I tried using hotspot from the laptop to my smart tv but the speed was very slow. Also i heard about smart DND, but it only works on USA . Can you please give me some suggestions?

If your TV doesn’t support VPN apps, the best option is to run the VPN on a device “ upstream” that your TV can connect through. If the router you use to access the internet supports it, you may be able to run the VPN client on that. If not, something like a Raspberry PI or some other low powered device can be used, and you can change the network settings on your TV to connect via that device.

I have googled and I think buying an amazon fire stick would fix my problem because amazon fire stick has playstore and i can install vpn on it. Anyone using firestick with vpn?

when you cannot run vpn client on a platform you need to go hardware, have a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A30CKRstgpE

You have to run your VPN through your router. Most VPNs offer router support now. Go look on your VPNs website for details.

just saw this posted on some deal site
https://store-us.gl-inet.com/products/usa-only-mango-gl-mt300n-v2 . it’s a travel size router
There is also a cheaper refurbished ones.

But I’ve seen many streaming services also use geolocation block, as such a vpn alone is useless. I missed college football, and most of the time, I can’t see them overseas.

You could use a smart dns instead of a vpn

I use one for my android Google TV to swap between regions.
