[HELP] I moved to France and the residence where I live bans VPN usage. What can I do?

I can’t even download the VPN software. Any help?

Thanks in advance!

What arguments do they give for blocking it?

Try other VPNs, they can’t block all of them.

Does anyone know why would an apartment complex ban VPN usage in France? Is it a government thing?

While not a way to use a VPN, a solution I have is to create a virtual desktop in the cloud - Google cloud, Amazon etc. A lot of them have a free tier that you can use for a year.
Basically sign up, create a Linux desktop, then connect to it from your PC using VNC.
All your ISP or residence will see is a VNC connection going out. You can do whatever you like on the desktop in the cloud - install a VPN, download torrents etc.

There are ways around the ‘VPN ban’.

How is banning VPN’s still a thing in 2019, when the number 1 reason people get a VPN is for security and privacy?.

Use shadowsocks proxy, they can’t stop it.

Your VPN provider should be happy to email you the software needed. If not, find a new provider. My provider Unspyable has emailed me files many times when I was blocked. I’ve encountered places that try to block VPN usage before since they want to keep track of you. But I’ve always been able to bust through. It’s not France, it’s your residence.

Use something that’s not a vpn. I use it’s app called fake GPS location. It won’t help with your privacy but apps like Snapchat and Twitter will think you’re in a different place.

Use a public WiFi to download the application and ask your friend to email it.

Note to self: never live in France

Cant u download it using your phone or a site like softpedia?

That VPN usage is for illegal stuff (like streaming) so nobody in the residence is allowed to use one.

I’m not sure but there’s a law in France, called Hadopi, which forbids users to download copyright protected material from illegal sources -and- enforces you to take measures against such downloads. On a 3 strikes out basis your internet connection will be dismantled if you get caught.

Because OP lives in a complex this would be the most logical explanation imo.

Hahahaha. That’s an amazing idea. Thanks!

psiphon is so underrated

Not with DPI and stuff

Nah… Its prolly the apartment or the place he lives noted as ‘residence’
