HELP! I can't use, uninstall, or repair ExpressVPN and I have no idea how to fix this!?

(Check my edit below. It’s fixed for me and has been working fine so far.)

No matter what I do Express VPN won’t run. It says Service Unreachable so I reboot my PC and then open EVPN and then I click the Repair button and I see Unable to repair. So I decide to close everything and reboot and then try to uninstall yet that won’t work. Can I just delete the files or something? I see people recommend deep uninstalling software but they tend to have some dumb premium pricetag. There are no other options I know of and there are no posts online that could find that have similar issues with solutions. Does anyone know what can fix this issue?

Edit: I fixed it (I think). I ended up installing/running (MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall meta diagcab) and then installed/ran (Bulk Crap Uninstaller-BCUninstaller) and uninstalled the software plus whatever else it could uninstall like the Registry files. I restarted my PC and then went to the Express VPN site to download the desktop app installer after that I installed the desktop app and finally signed into the desktop app and did an IP location test and it worked. Proof: I made this edit and uploaded the screenshot below while connected to VPN.

If anyone else is having this issue and none of the fixes worked, it might be that you have AstrillVPN installed. It was messing up both Surfshark and ExpressVPN on top of a bunch of other applications. Just uninstall it and everything should be working fine immediately.

April 12th 2024: Anybody who has this issue, trying only running the first program they references: the Microsoft Program Troubleshooter. I only needed to run it and it fixed the problem. It’s pretty self-explanatory, it just asks what program you’'re having trouble installing/uninstalling and it changes the registry files automatically.

Worked for me 2…
Thanks

None of the workarounds had any impact for me. I contacted EVPN. They had me uninstall using the MS product, then also in control panel>programs. Then they gave me a link for an older version of the program. Not sure where to source it from but this was the file name expressvpn_windows_10.52.0.6_release As soon as I installed it, everything worked

Same issue here. I can use the app, uninstall the app, or repair it. Seems completely broken.

I just had the same problems & tried several times to uninstall & rebooted god knows how many times, even tried this all in safe mode

After not getting anywhere for over 2hrs I found on the Microsoft Community a suggestion to try the Revo Uninstaller FREEWARE

I rebooted in safe mode again, just to make sure, & installed it. Then I tried uninstalling ExpressVPN, which still didn’t want to work, however afterwards the Revo Uninstaller allowed me to run the “scan for leftovers” & then I deleted those leftovers.
Finally it was completely gone & I rebooted as normal.

After that I was able to install ExpressVPN & now it’s working again

I tried many failed recommendations. This worked. I also went into the command prompt, run services.msc, then restarted “windows installer”. And thentried to install expressvpn. It worked. Thanks.

To anyone having this issue now the above edit worked for me

How do I find the product code for Express VPN for the uninstaller?

You have no fucking idea how much this has helped me I want to thank you so much for saving my sanity Thank You

Great advise on using Revo Uninstall Freeware. Worked for me.

Same - please help!

I have a Mac, not PC, so I can’t use the solution that this person added in the edited/updated post…

I tried downloading ExpressVPN, and now a notification keeps showing up on my screen saying ‘VPN not allow’ and no matter whether I press ‘OK’ or do nothing, it keeps disappearing and then showing up again after a few seconds, disrupting anything I do on any app.

I can’t use the VPN but I don’t even really want it anymore, I just want this ‘VPN now allow’ notification to stop showing up…

Any suggestions as to how uninstall Express VPN from my Mac?

Revo uninstaller is The Man. I ran ExpressVPN knowing my subscription had expired; I expected to get an upgrade window. NOPE. I tried to uninstall ExpressVPN a couple of times with no luck. Then I rebooted and tried to install the new version, failed again. I even disabled the ExpressVPN services and rebooted, since they kept restarting. This seemed to get me closer, but still no success.

I purchased the latest version of Revo uninstaller and discovered that I had an old version when I installed it. Revo couldn’t find ExpressVPN, due to my previous efforts to annihilate it I guess. I had to use forced uninstall to get rid of ExpressVPN; once I pointed Revo at the program folder, it did the rest. I had to run the scan for leftovers as others have mentioned to remove leftover registry entries and leftover files. ExpressVPN installed after that, but it didn’t recognize my license key; I had to use the email link to register my copy. Nothing like wasting 90 minutes on a simple task. ExpressVPN needs to write an uninstall app to clean up their junk and/or fix their uninstaller.

Revo also did an excellent job of removing the junk files from my PC, better than some other cleaners I’ve used. I wonder if I could use the leftover scan on my fridge. LOL. Too much to ask I guess.

I did a reboot on my computer. Worked

Did all that still didn’t work my issue is it let’s me uninstall and reinstall then it just freezes I already tried going back to a different version of the app and nothing

I used the solution provided in the Edit and it worked!,

Thanks!

Without taking a chance and ruining your PC with more junk simply open tge command prompt, type regedit. Search for express VPN and delete the keys of this pirate ware.

This company is messed up - I tried out various VPNS over last 6 months, they are the only one who installs to point you cannot uninstall.

Just beware, if you ever try to change away this application will remain buried and running on your pc

I did all this and then some and I’m back to square one.
