First week on Outlier and I went on marketplace. After the initial onboarding they are telling me I have to download Global VPN to use it. But I thought VPNs were not allowed and that your account would be banned if you use one. I didn’t download it, because this is a very confusing platform already. I honestly have no clue what’s even going on.
The flamingo projects require that specific VPN to access the off platform site where the tasks are. That VPN is tagged to be allowed so will not get you banned if you use it when working on that project.
It’s fine. It’s confusing at first. The client for Flamingo projects requires us to download the VPN to work on that project. You won’t be permitted to task on any Flamingo project without using it. It’s perfectly safe.
Come back when you’ve made it through onboarding and come across the task that requires the SRT permalink.
The Flamingo projects are very confusing at first, but you get used to it after awhile and get into a rhythm, I promise
I managed to make a few tasks that required SRT mirroring, but on my second task I ran out on time at SRT, I didn’t realize and submitted on Outlier first. Am I in trouble??
Hi…I am actually just finishing up my onboarding for a Flamingo project. I finally was successful in getting the vpn set up and now im starting on the paid tasks. Immediately upon starting that section, I waa lost and exited because of it being timed. Im a little unclear if I am supposed to be logged in to the vpn for this part or what. This is my first project with Outlier that I finally passed the assessment for. ( except for this last part. ) this is actually the first that I am earning pay so I do not want to screw this up. Are there any helpful tips or words of advice you might be able to offer a newbie in order for it to not seem so darn confusing?? I think the biggest challenge is where the task formatting does not appear the same as what it was in the training material.
So, you need to be logged into the VPN when you use SRT- that’s the client’s platform. For Flamingo projects, you need log-in creds to access SRT. So you won’t be able to do any tasking until you’ve received those credentials.
The most important thing you need now is access to the project’s Discourse page. So click on “Community” on the Outlier dashboard and make sure you’ve been added to the channel.
Thank you so very much!
