EDIT* Leaving this up but just wanted to let everyone know the issue is fixed thanks to @flatland99. The solution was that C++ 2015-2022 needed to be installed. I thought I had it installed but when I checked it was not. Thank you all!
Hello all,
We are replacing old laptops and cannot for the life of me get FortiClient VPN to work. I am currently running 7.4.1.1736 but have also run older versions. The client is not showing any errors in the logs and will not time out, it just stays stuck on the screen after clicking connect. When I click disconnect it then gets stuck on the “disconnecting” message and won’t terminate the session. Our FortiGate is also not seeing any attempts to connect in its logs from what I can see. All the settings are 100% correct. I have seen where NIC drivers can be an issue, so I have run several versions of those to no avail. I’m really not sure what to even try at this point since I am getting no logs to point me in the right direction. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.
Is the Visual C++ 2015-2022 runtime installed? I had a similar issue and ran across a post that said these were required and it fixed my problem. Another symptom is the FortiTray icon will not be showing in the tray area.
Its dramatic with forti… we wanted to update Also Because of the lastest cve threat… testing 7.4.1 Some work, some doesnt without error etc… zo now falling back to 7.0.10! Still work fine… whats al hard about this…
FortiClient is a shitshow at the moment TBH.
7.2.3 is what works for us for both SSL VPN and ZTNA.
All newer versions have had strange problems…
I had this issue with the 7.4 line of FortClientVPN. I’ve now gone back to 7.2.5 and it works quite well.
I’ve had issues with Lenovo laptops in the past. They seem to work on 7.4.1 but they had issues on 7.2.5. Not sure if that helps any. If you are using the paid client then you can make a support case
Weird, I just upgraded everyone across the org to 7.4.1.1736, no issues, outside of if not retaining the user id.
I also replaced two new users laptops running W11, no issues.
This Worked! Thank you so much!!
Will try this on thursday… hopefully it works…
Does the Visual C++ 2015 - 2022 runtime get installed with the Fortiaclient?
Yeah we want to update because of the cve too but oh well, just gonna have to accept the threat.
Moment? I think at inception, it’s a high school programming project that got put in the enterprise
We are moving to thinkpads so in the same boat. I will try 7.2. Thanks!
I always do silent installs and it was not installing this runtime. I can’t remember if you’re prompted to install it if you run it manually.
I was not prompted to install with the client.
Yeah maybe we Will accept it also
What version of the client did you install? 7.4.1 - correct?
I’m going to try it with mine and see. I’m currently running 7.2 -7.5.
I’m wondering if Fortinet forgot to include it inside the MSI or if it is new starting with 7.4.1.
