There is definitely an issue with Google VPN locking up for Pixel 7-series users. Google seems reluctant to acknowledge the issue. From my personal experience, the VPN provided by Google One never had any issues on my Pixel 6 Pro, and it is working great on the Chrombook that I’m using to type this right now.
But from day 1 with my Pixel 7a, I have had this issue: Approximately every 18-24 hours, my phone will simply lose it’s connection to the web via WiFi – without any warning or indication. I’ll miss messages and not even know it. And I only realize the issue when I pick up my phone and attempt to browse the web or use an app that accesses the Internet.
I’ve done all the troubleshooting steps everyone has recommended: clearing app and cache data, starting/stopping the VPN, restarting my phone, making sure I have the latest version of the Google One app, and verifying that I don’t have another VPN on my phone. These steps will restore my internet access on my phone, but only temporarily – until the issue happens again.
I’ve been in a chat with Google Support for an hour and a half and I’m insisting they escalate. It’s time someone takes a real look at this. I know for a fact I’m not the only one.
Pixel 7 (not beta) user here. In addition to OP’s steps, I also had to: disconnect from VPN, disconnect from wifi, reconnect the VPN (which then worked), then turn wifi back on.
My issue with the G1 VPN is that it causes YouTube playback to stop working when I press the home button to turn off the home screen (so when the phone is in my pocket), I can still listen and multitask without it bouncing around in my pocket and accidentally tapping things on the screen.
I have YouTube premium, and so I am supposed to be able to turn the display off without the playback stopping.
Yeah been talking to chat for a few days and they gave offered nothing, i tried this, i tried reinstalling, its weird cause my pixel watch hasbt been disconnecting
I was using a Motorola 22 stylus and it worked fine. Upgrade to a Samsung Galaxy s23 ultra and new wifi router & it won’t connect at all. What gives?! Any ideas? Worked fine on the Motorola.
It happens to me also The only way I found out to overcome the issue is to keep hitting connect when it disconnects It takes five or six times but then it suddenly stays connected at least for a while a day or so? Solutions are needed
Not just pixel I have an IPhone 12 and it does the same…. It just tries to keep reconnecting and it doesn’t allow me to use my phone…. I cant even use my cellular data to do anything… I literally had to delete the app to use my phone and I disabled the VPN AND STILL it kept trying to connect to it… also when I restarted my phone an Apple support message came up and almost didn’t allow me to start my phone…. It’s messed up my phone in sooooo many ways it’s insane! my wifi was fine and as soon as I deleted the app everything was back to normal…… I’ll stick to Nord VPN… Google is doing wayyyy too much!
