[F] Hotspot Shield free for 1 year with a .edu email address
I don’t like how they say they use “proprietary” VPN technology. I was going to x-post this to my uni’s sub, but now I don’t want to, seems kinda odd. IPsec is a common standard, what protocols could they be using that they don’t want to mention? I signed up anyways, we’ll see how it turns out.
I have become wary of hotspot VPN there last android update asked for permissions to read my contacts since there is no technical reason a VPN needs to know mom phone number. Hence i have not updated and am looking for a new solution.
Yea I signed up with this promotion a few months ago. I can tell you that their service sucks. Speeds are ok but they block few sites and the service disconnects periodically and does not automatically connect back. It also lacks any client/support for Linux. Over all I would not recommend this to anyone.
Not sure about their info, but I signed up with my .edu address to test them out, got the email from them that I created an account but I never got credited with the time. I appears that this promotion is no longer active or is not working properly.
there’s no such thing as “proprietary VPN technology”. Nobody reinvents the wheel, but just let the marketing chicks do their job.
I wouldn’t use a service (even if it’s free) if they advertise such bullshit. Period.
Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone to actually pay for it, or for torrenting, but for my purposes, which is evading school Internet filters, it works just fine, and is faster than other free services such as VPNBook/Gate.
What sites do they block?
Odd. I signed up 4 days ago and it works fine.
