This was discussed yesterday but wanted to ask if others are still having problems. For the last ~24 hours access to the AWS Elite servers have been timing out for me(and others). Xfinity has been no help as expected. New information I have found is when I use a VPN I can load the game to the menus but access to the AWS back end servers are not connecting. I am assuming AWS is actively blocking VPN access so this isn’t a usable workaround. What this does prove is that my Xfinity IP address is being incorrectly(inefficiently?) routed to the elite front AND back end servers.
TL;DR if you are also having problems accessing the servers vis Xfinity please open a ticket so they see multy complaints about the issue.
Same for me, Comcast/Xfinity customer in Southeast USA
Edit: It seems that the FDev support is structured to try and reduce the number of duplicate issues. It may be in our best interest to not create new tickets, but to upvote and comment on existing tickets that best match your specific symptoms. Here is the one I found for myself:
Xfinity USA customer here too, located in Midwest. All evening yesterday connectivity was terrible. It started behaving better around midnight but it seems like that didn’t last. Hope it gets sorted soon.
Ticket with who? Frontier? This definitely seems like a Frontier issue. I am having the same issue with Elite, but I also have a BUNCH of stuff I access in AWS with no issue.
Edit: Yeah, ran a traceroute to the servers, I get to the servers perfectly fine (less than 10 hops, 64ms rtt) Almost definitely a Frontier issue.
Adding my hat to the ring and can barely find any word on it. Also Xfinity and just gave up trying to play. Everything from the launcher to the client to signing in to switching menus on the main menu to jumping/dropping in. It would either crash the client or hang for 3+ minutes waiting for the transaction server to give na OK. I didn’t realize just how much data gets bounced to/from the transaction servers.
South Florida. Comcast/Xfinity
So it wasn’t just me. Annoying AF.
I can load the game and play but Everytime I try to load modules or missions at a station I get error code Scarlett krait.
midwest XFinity customer on XBox - wasn’t seeing issues from about 7pm to midnight last night (though I probably relay through the Live servers then direct to Frontier’s - at least it’s another data point)
Running into the same issues in Ohio. Taking forever to load into the game and I’m having difficulty completing missions and none populate on the mission board. Hoping it’s just a Tuesday patch day or just some server maintenance issue
Same, Denver, CO. Really starting to annoy me. Seems like at night I am good to go, but during the day… I basically can’t play at all.
Frontier said “Not it”. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/connection-issues.542911/post-8416081
UPDATE: I contacted comcast, and they acknowledged an issue and claim that a gateway reboot will resolve this.
“I’ve noticed an issue that may be impacting your internet experience. A gateway reboot should be able to resolve this issue and will take up to 12 minutes to complete. If you have Xfinity Voice, you will not be able to make or receive calls, including emergency 911 calls, until your gateway is back online. Are you ready to start now?”
UPDATE 2: The Gateway Reboot from Comcast appears to have resolved this for me in Northern Colorado. I just did a dozen passenger missions outta Ribigo, crips jumps, crips menus, everything loading sharp, no disconnections or hanging load times on station menus.
I’ve been digging into this using Wireshark. My system is using IPv6 to communicate with the ED AWS servers.
The latency on these connections is amazing. A typical TLS conversation is taking approximately 13 seconds between the initial open and first major data being returned. As it’s encrypted, I can’t easily (without some kerfuffle) determine what’s inside these conversations, but I have to assume that there’s a problem either with Comcast’s IPv6 support, or there’s an issue at AWS / FDev with IPv6.
I’m going to try disabling IPv6 on my Google wifi mesh if I can, and see if that restores service to what others are experiencing. This is not the ideal solution, because IPv6 should be by now - after 20 years of active IPv6, it should be the *only* protocol in use on the Internet. When IPv4 was switched on, the transition concluded hard - if you weren’t on the new protocol after Jan 1 1983, you didn’t have the Internet. We should have done that with IPv6.
Ok, after a few more tests… While I’m trying to load the mission board for instance, I ran a speedtest simultaneously. 184 ping 22mb down, 22 up…
Closed the game… 11 ping, 178mb down and 28 up.
EDIT: I have now done this about 20 times and ED is literally dragging the life out of my bandwidth, I am not having this issue on ANY other game or device.
Did this a few times with the same results. What else could this be?
UPDATE: I left the game idling all night… did nothing, not even move. My household internet speeds were trash all night… I turned the game off, and miraculously… my internet connection is perfect. tested multiple games, no replication. ONLY Elite Dangerous is trashing my connection. I was checking the network usage in game with ctrl+b and it was showing nothing while idling, small spikes while accessing Mission Board and whatever else. Anyone have any ideas?
I thought it was just me. Did a clean reinstall of Elite and still couldn’t get the launcher to load. It loaded once and I got into the game but everything was slow AF. I thought there was something wrong with my PC.
Comcast customer west coast US. Have a great connection. Yesterday was seeing some lag when buying items. Can open the game menu but can’t log on. Game starts loading and then crashes.
I’m on Comcast in Florida. Last night I couldn’t use Solo play but Open was working fine. Now today Open is also affected. Sometimes things work, sometimes not. Universal Cartography doesn’t work. Then I can’t change ships. Unable to buy or sell in markets. All sorts of unusual behaviors when jumping between systems or in supercruise. This is just too frustrating to play right now. I hope they get it fixed soon.
I opened the ticket on the frontier issue tracker that seems be getting the most contributions right now (/u/Ieorith provided the link). I also added the steps below to be able to play using a VPN, but I just noticed that even though I can play, I can’t connect to the mission boards. It says standby for about 20 seconds and always get the error message “Failed to Communicate with Server Unable to get an up to date mission list from server”.
4/21 10:10am EPT Update to original report: I found a way a way around these issues, but it requires some connecting and disconnecting through a VPN that may help you find the problem cause. My steps below:
-
Start VPN (I’m in US, connected to any US server) and launch ED:H through steam. This connects to the ED launcher normally with no delay
-
Launch ED:H. This launches with no delay.
-
On main game screen, it says “Can’t Connect to Frontier Servers” so I disconnect my VPN. WIthin a few seconds, the main game screen has established a connection
-
Continue game (solo mode is the only one I’ve tried so far)
-
Once loaded into game, reconnect VPN, continue playing as normal
-
Will sometimes get disconnect error messages that boot me out, so I repeat steps 1-5. This is rare, but it happens.
Make note that for steps 1, 2, and 4 if I am not connected to VPN, I reproduce the original issue.
UPDATE was able to connect and get in game. Mission board and outfitting are still pretty laggy still.
Similar problem. Looks like folks are finally noticing. https://downdetector.com/status/elite-dangerous/news/306292-problems-at-elite-dangerous/
It isn’t just limited to a particular ISP in the US. I haven’t been able to connect for 24 hours here in the United Kingdom on xBOX. Sounds like a routing, IP, caching or blacklisting issue
