Does NordVpn make the apps on your phone run through the vpn?

Hello

I’m new to VPNs and I was just wondering if when I install it on my phone does the whole data activity on the device get routed through the VpN or just a few apps?

Also can someone still see my IP address on my phone or it it the IP from the VPN?

Thanks for your answers !

In most cases, all network activity on your phone will go through the VPN tunnel, meaning the IP people see would be the VPN’s IP, not your real one. BUT, there are some situations where your actual location could still be estimated/tracked.

VPNs are marketed aggressively, often over-exaggerating the risk of “leaking your IP, or being unsecured without one” and it’s important to know if you really need one. Why did you decide to start using a VPN? There might be other solutions, depending on your goals.

Usually after you have installed the app and launched it, whole traffic is encrypted. If you want to make some app go directly to internet you just adding this app in exclusions list in nordvpn

Thanks for your explanation

I’m using it for a remote job, and I need to be in Asia all the time. Sometimes my location is visible on app we use, and was just asking if they could see I wasn’t really in Asia.
What about when apps ask to use your location ? Is it the location of VPN or my actual location ?

I see. In your case, your employer could see your location if they are actively monitoring the app users/employees. And when apps ask for your location, you’re giving away your actual location, VPN only hides your IP, not your location

To solve this, try taking away any unnecessary permissions from the app, especially the location permission, if the app won’t work without it, you will need to find a mock location app to spoof your location. (Only applies to Android, I don’t know if there’s such a feature available for iPhones).

If the app asks for your location it likely uses GPS. They could very likely see if you aren’t in Asia, even with VPN use.
