Desktop Client VS Browser Extension

I’m currently using the desktop client and not the browser extension, but I’m thinking of ditching the desktop client and using the browser extension instead.

I understand that the extension only affects traffic from the browser and not from other programs, and I’m fine with that. That’s actually what I want.

My question is this: As far as traffic from the browser is concerned, is there any difference between the two approaches? Same encryption, anonymization, and dns blocking with Robert as I get with the desktop client? Or are those benefits compomised or limited in some way?

I’m using Ubuntu and Firefox if it’s relevant. Thanks for the help!

Afaik the browser extension does not replace the desktop application. Why? Well it is just a proxy. Meaning that it doesn’t encrypt your traffic at all.

Just google Proxy vs VPN

No. The extension is just a proxy, not a VPN. So if you want your traffic to be encrypted, use the VPN desktop app. If you want only your browser to go through the VPN, you can set that up using the split tunneling feature.

I’d like to see someone from Windscribe to confirm if the proxy connection using just the browser extension is encrypted or not.
