Criterion Channel in Spain via Fire TV Stick for dummies?

Hello,

I’ve been trying to find a workaround to watch the Criterion Channel in Spain for some time now.

Well, not that I tried so hard, but I’ve looked into it.

Since my TV is a pre-smart TVs LG, I was aware that I should manage to watch Criterion via my laptop and then through the HDMI port on the said TV set.

I tried opening an Criterion account through the Tor browser, but didn’t succeed. I learned that I should get a VPN, at least to sign up, and the perspective of paying for a VPN monthly + paying for the Criterion Channel to watch it via HDMI didn’t seem very appealing, so I gave up.

However, now that I just purchased Amazon’s Fire TV Stick (I did it mostly because I read about people watching Criterion from Europe that way), I want to go all the way, but I have no idea how.

Could somebody give me (or link) a step-by-step tutorial on how to set the Fire Stick to watch Criterion?

I have hardly opened the box even though I have Netflix and Amazon’s subscriptions for fear that setting those up might give my location away and ruin the chance to install Criterion.

The idea of browsing through Melville’s, Malle’s, Cassavetes’, Lang’s, Kurosawa’s films this week from my couch is giving me a HO.

Thank you!

I dont think you need a VPN as long as you are using a payment gateway registered in the US, which is the tricky part I suppose.

Yes, while I was waiting for replies, I was digging a bit deeper on reddit – I’m sorry, the same question has been asked a thousand times.

Apparently, if I trick Amazon into thinking I’m based in the US, for instance, by adding a US address, I don’t even need the VPN thing at all.

Once I download the app from the fake location Amazon and sign up to Criterion, I’m good to go. I haven’t tried it yet because I want to pay the Criterion subscription through my USD-balance Wise account, which sadly is empty momentarily. If it works, I will post the workaround for people who could be in the same position in the future.

Thank you both!

You only need the VPN to sign up, so no need to pay for it and maintain it once you are signed up.

On the Fire Stick, just go to the Amazon App Store, search for ‘Criterion’, which will bring up the app, and then download/install.

Nah a friend I know who is definitely not me pays with a UK bank card and it is accepted

Yeah basically you set up an Amazon account with an American home address (say you live in the White House who gives a shit) and register the firestick to that account. Your App Store will be all American apps. Download a vpn and use the free trial, with the VPN set to USA download Criterion Channel. Cancel the vpn once you’re registered if you want, should be fine. Alternatively keep the VPN and you can also run Max and Hulu, if you can pay for them in dollars

Same scenario here. A friend who also isn’t me, pays with a mexican cc.
