Change Primary Device for VPN

Hi all,

Looking around the settings in our Meraki to identify where I need to do some more research (this post is to see if I’m on the right track).

We have three Meraki devices, and the one the VPN is set against doesn’t have the strongest internet connection, so when that drops, our other sites drop - not ideal. I would like to change it, but want to understand if it’s just changing the settings on the Addressing & VLAN Page.

Current Primary

Site to be changed to primary

So looking at the above, I would expect I would change the current primary to a single LAN and the one to be changes, add the VP (with the same IP address range?). Will do some more reading, but just wanting to make sure I’m heading in the right direction.

I have no idea what you mean by primary device.

My wording is probably poor, but as far as my understanding goes, the VPN is overseen on a specific device.

When we have an internet outage at the location this specific device is at, our other sites drop out too because the connection to the VPN drops. I’d like to move the VPN management to one of our other sites with the more reliable internet connection.

If you’re talking about one mx appliance in your organization being a central vpn manager that’s not true. There is no central server with Meraki it’s all cloud managed.

Maybe you have that as your only hub and the other sites are all spokes? That would cause the outage you describe too but you can just configure additional hubs or switch everyone to a hub to avoid that.

Thanks for that. That sounds logical and it gives me something to read up on. Appreciate it.
