Just got a new Iphone in China, Astrill is not on the list of vpns in the App store for some reason.
Do I have to play with the settings a bit on my phone to make this work? Like change the location to outside of China somewhere?
How do I do that?
The store region goes with your Apple ID.
You just have to change the region for your Apple ID - linked to your appstore.
To do this, i believe you simply have to go to locations in your account or something like that
When you set up your iPhone, what region did you pick? The apps that show up are the apps allowed for that region so if you picked the US, Canada, etc you’d find it but if you picked China, then you won’t see VPN apps.
download an installer from pc? on their website?
Astrill isn’t any good anyways. Use gogojump or lets vpn
You’re going to need a credit card from another county to get a new Apple ID from there. You can ask someone you know in another country to create the account for you but they can’t remove the payment method.
So nothing I can do? :o

You can change your account region? If I remember right you need a payment method that would make sense for the region. Not sure if the billing address has to be in that region though.
For me, every time, the billing address has to be in the region you’re changing to, and match the billing address of the new payment method. For example. My current region is China with Chinese bank card and address. Let’s say I want to change the region to the US, then I will need a US card and the US billing address corresponding to that card.
I guess it depends on what you consider expensive
who says it’s not a ripoff? the main gripe we have with it is that it’s expensive.
but other than that, it is more reliable than anything else. as well as being easy to use. whatever hole fastvpn popped up from, doing for so cheap, there is something under that is an obvious trap. no good service is cheap

Most those cheap services get wiped out during a VPN crackdown. Been here 12 years and seen it happen countless times to my friends. They offer good pricing and usually a package that is too good to be true, and it may or may not work great for a while, but then it starts going down all the time and eventually it just never works again and the company is just gone with your money.
It’s expensive, but that’s only because there’s nothing to compete with it. Also FYI, you can usually get it 50% off on black friday. I picked up 2 years for $180 last black friday which comes down to 90 a year. Still more expensive compared to previous years but nowhere near as crazy as their “normal” price. They don’t do sales often, but there is always one on black friday and usually one or two more during the year.
萌新 it’s excellent and you can pay in CNY, but they are a server-subscription service VPN, so you’ll need like V2rayng or shadowrocket to use the servers.
