Bypass school Wi-Fi hosted by Sophos using a proxy or VPN
Sophos is a top tier network security suite, you probably should just not poke them too much. There is at least a semi competent IT team behind this switch and they probably are monitoring suspicious activity anyway.
You should just bring your own hotspot instead as the other guy said.
easy, buy your own internet hotspot and avoid any unnecesary complication with your college.
There is a post here of a dude getting almost expelled from his college because he use a vpn to login into his student account … i dont remember the country or college, but by default, VPN is suspicious for the common and more for the IT guy geetting you hard time.
You could run a VPN from your house. Its less likely to arouse instant supsicion as the EndPoint wont be a “Common” VPN Provider. Whilst not perfect. Just be sure to run it on a Port that doesnt look like OPenVPN/Wireguard.
You can of course use Tailscale type VPN’s too which are a little easier.
You should bypass the school’s vpn sparingly.
Network admins aren’t totally dumb. If they can get a log of what outbound addresses students are connecting to, they certainly can notice a site that they don’t recognize getting a lot of traffic and block it.
It’s not necessary now (thanks u/Kaniskar !) - thank you though! I’ve always wanted to set something up like that, but I’ve never really figured it out…
Thank you, I’ll be even more careful now! I set up a Teams group (it’s convenient for everyone and I am fully aware my college could easily find the Teams group and shut it down lol) for this, and I just wanted to find a solution everyone had been asking for!
Thanks, I’ll be careful
