Feeling pretty lost about my Taiwan trip from 2/14-2/25. I want to spend some time in Taipei, go to the pingxi lantern festival- otherwise feeling pretty overwhelmed with how many places to visit. I don’t want to rent a car, and don’t have a motorbike license. I love nature (thinking of Hualien + Taroko Gorge). But also love calm cities, culture, museums, food, and exploring. For how long I am there, it seems like it would be difficult to go to Hualien, Taipei, Tainan, and Kaohsiung- as I need to go to Pingxi at the end. An idea I had for an itinerary is: Taiwan Arrive in taipei -Go to the national museum -Day trips: -Gondola to Maokong -Hot springs- beitou Then go south- can you get to Guanziling without a car? I really want to go to the mud springs! -Guanziling hot springs Then go south to: -Lukang -Tainan -Meinong -Kaohsiung
Looking at Pingxi, it seems there are no places to stay overnight. To people usually take the bus in the morning, then take the bus back to Taipei after the festivities? What time do the festivities usually run?
Back in Taiwan for the second time. Didn’t realise Citibank was no longer a thing and DBS has closed all its ATMs. Any idea where/if l could withdraw money from my Citi card without a foreign transaction fee?
Im going to Taiwan for the first time, are tattoos seen as disrespectful? My whole family has sleeves and they aren’t worried but i’m always a bit worried. We’re also looking to maybe get a new tattoo there, is there any tattoo shops or parlors?? We will be on the sound end near Kaohsiung City I believe
Hi all, my account is too new to post, so I’m trying here- I’m beginning a master’s program at NTU next month, but due to a complex personal situation, I was not in any one country long enough to go through the resident visa application process. It’s risky, but my hope is to make it at least through the first semester using my visa exemption, with a round trip to Vietnam on the 85th day to reset the 90 day limit. Could this go wrong?
My best friend was in an accident while vacationing in Nicaragua and I flew down to sit bedside for several weeks while her parents couldn’t be there. As a result, I missed my appointment at the Taiwan consulate in the US, and separately the consulate in Nicaragua was unable to help me. Then we returned to the United States together, but I was not left with enough time here to get my health check, visa appointment, etc. before my flight to Taipei.
I will try to apply for a resident visa and ARC while in Taipei, but I don’t know what to expect, given that all online advice says to apply while in your home country. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!
I will be traveling to TSMC, Taiwan, in either the last week of March or first week of April.
I follow a religious Vegetarian diet (No Meat, fish, egg, onion or garic. Milk is ok)
From my research I understand the Buddhist diet is similar. Am I correct? Is it sufficient to ask for a Buddhist food, Or do I need to add some clarification to it?
What are some good restaurants in and around TSMC for Buddhist meals?
I will be one year in Taiwan from May on and looking for some people to meet.
Anyone into photography and interested in sharing some time together, taking pictures, drinking a beer or a coffee and just enjoying ourselfs?
I am from Germany, like Rock, Punk, Metal, but also Post Malone and a lot of other music. Good music is good music. I also like to go to concerts and capture them.
I know this has probably been asked countless times – but EVA or China Airlines?
I probably wouldn’t be asking this if it weren’t for the fact that when I’m traveling, there’s a $350-$400 cost difference. Like this is a big enough difference for me to wonder if China Airlines’ low price (compared to EVA) are too good to be true or if they are desperate for customers.
Anyone have recommendations for Twitter or Facebook accounts to follow about upcoming Jpop and/or Kpop concerts in Taiwan, and ticket sales? I read this article about IU’s concert in Taipei but looks like there is still no information about ticket sales.
I have a layover in Taiwan for 13 hours next week and would like to see the city since it’s my first time there. Any recommendations on what to see and how to not get lost? I’m worried about transportation and not having Wi-Fi to check where to go.
I’m into trying street food and would like to get some good boba along the way! I don’t have a lot of budget maybe $200 CAD? Would that be enough?
I will be solo-travelling to Taiwan in March and will be spending 3 days in Hualien. Will be staying in a hotel near the station, and my tentative itinerary looks something like:
Day 1: Liyu Lake, Qixing Lake, and Dongdamen Night Market
Day 2: Explore Taroko National Park, Qingshui Cliffs
Day 3: Hike Swallow Grotto and Shakadang Trails
Therefore, I have the following questions and would appreciate some answers to them:
I was thinking of renting a bike from the Giant store near the station for day 1 and 2, then taking the bus to Taroko Gorge on day 3. Would this be a feasible plan for transportation, or would there be a better way? Also, how difficult is the bike ride to Taroko National Park and Qingshui Cliffs, given that I am relatively fit, quite comfortable on a bicycle but I do not have much experience riding on roads?
Is there a better way to organize my itinerary? Open to suggestions as long as I get to see the Qingshui Cliffs, hike Taroko Gorge, and spend some time along Qixingtan Beach.
I see many of these videos for crispy pork belly but they’re all located in the south near Tainan and Kaohsiung. Are there any places like this in Taipei?
How is mask wearing in Taiwan? I last went there in Feb 2023 and people were still wearing masks outside most of the time, even though it wasn’t mandatory.
Must have been like 99% wearing them indoors and maybe 80% outdoors.
Is that still the case?
Edit: I’m not anti-mask or whatever, just want to know so I avoid any awkward situations when I arrive
In 2025, I’ll be studying Computer Science in Minghsin University of Science and Technology (MUST). Opinions?
Currently a 1st year CS student at a different country, and this program in the school I’m attending to has a joint program with MUST; which means I’ll be spending my 3rd and 4th year in there. We’ve already had our basic orientation regarding this program last November and met two professors from there.
But I wanted to know more about their university and the course I’ll be taking there + if any of you guys graduated there or met some of their professors, or just general opinions on taking up computer science in Taiwan.
hows the weather in taitung currently? Ive been in TW before in mid-Jan and it was sometimes cold, sometimes not too bad. Does it stay the same for Feb? Does it start warming up in March? Asking as a surfer.
