Best VPN? Hamachi, Teamviewer, Tuungle, or?

Just as the title says. What is the best VPN for old games i guess one that would support IPX as well for really old games like starcraft etc.

I used to use Hamachi version 1.37 or something like that. However it’s no longer support and could only hold 5 friends in a “channel”.

Teamviewer’s VPN doesn’t seem to hold a connection open very long. Seems to have random disconnects but that may have been our setup and I’ve only tested it with Terraria. Not sure if it’d work with other games.

Tuungle was a pipe dream when I looked at it last. It was meant to be the replacement for many classic gaming services like gamespy, mplayer, T.E.N. or Kali

So what’s the best right now? Looking into Garena now and tuungle… any suggestions welcome.

I’ve never had any problems using Tunngle. It works great and we’ve stopped using hamachi(as long as everybody has Tunngle port forwarded).

We’ve definitely played Starcraft over Tunngle without any problems. For Starcraft you definitely want to use Local Area Network(UDP) instead of IPX though.

As for IPX Support, we’ve tried Red Alert 2 and I believe that only uses IPX.

well i suggest Garena it’s by FAR the most popular one.But it’s only for age of empire 1 and warcraft 3.For other games it’s either tunngle(if they’re newer) or gameranger(if they’re older)

If you’re handy you can set up your own VPN with Tinc.

Doing this for the old C&C games. Plus various other RTSes of the day wc2 etc.

Only wish we could emulate null modem for original C&C or dune. Even though the controls are considered difficult by todays standards it’d still be fun if only for a minute.

OpenVPN is nice too.

There is also the option of using your router firmware as well (if supported). It’s easy to configure a vpn with alternative firmware options such as openwrt, dd-wrt, tomato, et cetera.

My Fonera 2.0n has it integrated, but I’ve never been able to get it to work.
