Battery drain on Android

Hi all, I’ve been using Proton for a few years on all my devices, including my phone. It appears to me that when I enable protonvpn on my Android phone, the battery drains much faster, arguably shaving - 3-4h off.

I can’t claim whether it’s the act of running (any) vpn or whether the Proton vpn Android app could be better optimised. I’m wondering what other folks are experiencing.

When you’re connected to a VPN on your device, increased battery consumption is expected since your device is constantly maintaining the VPN connection. However, this increase in battery consumption should not be significant.

Have you tried switching to the lightweight WireGuard protocol to see if there’s any difference?

What version of the Proton VPN app do you have installed?

Are there any other apps on your device that have a high battery usage?

Do you have any other VPN apps installed?

If the issue persists, contact us using the ‘Report an issue’ option in the app menu with some answers to the above questions so we can investigate the issue further and assist you.

I use proton VPN app on my Android. It doesn’t have any issues it drains maximum less than 1 Percent battery of total battery for me

The latest beta on android did that for me too today. I’ll wait a few days to confirm that it is not a once off fluke.

Hi and thanks for responding. Yes I’m using wire guard and the latest app. I’m not sure that it’s abnormal usage, but was wondering about others experiences or use cases. Perhaps some toggle on and off often instead of keeping it connected.
