As alluded to in the title, Avast caused my PC to go kapootzski and I had to take it into a repair place twice in a year. I hate it and I just want something to keep my PC and a few other devices sdafe without messing with necessary files.
Hello,
As far as the actual programs go, there is no one “best” program, as each has its plusses and minuses. Performance, system resource usage, and detection rates change with every update, and those occur multiple times throughout the day.
So, any of the programs listed in the wiki at https://old.reddit.com/r/antivirus/wiki/index#wiki_anti-virus_.28aka_anti-malware.29_developers would be a good starting place to find what is best for you.

It’s the first time I heard Avast do that.
the best are Bitdefender or Kaspersky.
Best regards
What happened with Avast?
Its worth noting Avast apparently doesnt play nice with NordVPN so that may have had something to do with the necessary files getting fucked up
Ignore this Kapersky recommendation because it’s BANNED and WON’T be updated.
It did an automatic clean for what it deemed unnecessary files and got rid of the system boot files or something. I took it to a repair place and they told me they see it happen with avast’s cleaning app often and i had to get it reset. This happened twice and both repair places i went to said the same thing.
I experienced similar, but it wasn’t just Avast but other AVs that used web protection interfering with various VPN desktop apps. It was similar with Adguard for Windows, etc.
I think I had to exclude one app in the settings of the other, and vice versa.
Only in USA and I dont know where he is
Try Bitdefender or Malwarebytes, Malwarebytes does cost money
I still advise against using it.
