So the story starts with my friend and I wanting to play Ark on a private server together. So I thought I would take a run at hosting an unofficial dedicated server on my PC using Ark Server Manager.
Skip forward to me setting it up on my PC and getting the server online to where it shows up in an Ark server search and in my LAN search.
At this time my friend is also able to log in to the sever and play flawlessly. Now here’s where trouble starts…
I start up Ark, we are both using the base game, no DLC and neither of us have battleye installed. I search for my server and it shows up in unofficial and LAN search. I go to join and one of two things happens…
-
I try joining in with the admin password and it says I have the wrong password every time, despite changing it multiple times to be sure it wasn’t a spelling error.
-
I try joining in with the normal player password and it will start loading the game until it gets to what is called “Snapshot_10”. Then it freezes for a bit and proceeds to take me back to the main menu of Ark saying I timed out.
It never fails to keep screwing me over in one of these two ways and I’ve run through the Ark Server Manager setup 2-3 and my friend is able to log in and play just fine every time.
Fellow Ark explorers, is there any way this can be worked around or fixed? I am at a loss and feel so disappointed as I felt it was going so well and I’m so close, my servers right in arms reach I just can’t get in.
Thank you for your time, any help is much appreciated!!!
I hate to speculate… but maybe try a VPN? It might be trying to connect to the public IP instead of private (Connect to local to internet to network, instead of connect local to local).
you could always try this: https://www.reddit.com/r/ARK/comments/6q29xc/snapshot_10/
also, you don’t use an admin password to connect to a server. you use the admin password after you’re connected in the console in order to “enablecheats”
Thanks for the input! As I’m not super familiar with setting up a VPN is there any specific resources you recommend?
Awesome I will definitely try this, and aaah! That makes totally sense now that the admin pass is used for in game modification and not as a login. Thank you for the clear explanation!
Before I get too far ahead of myself, could you verify your setup for me? Are all systems on the same network?
you can always use the Avira Phantom VPN trial for free just to see if it fixes the problem. I had a similar problem when xfinity sent me a new cable modem/router. Also, why don’t you have battleye installed?
So I’m running a standard modem to wireless router for my network, my computer is wirelessly connected to that network via static IP. The server is running on my computer along with my copy of the game and my friends a town away playing on his com. Hope this is enough info I’m currently at work right now so might be limited to some info. Thanks!
Oky doky, the only reason I don’t have it was because my friend had skipped the install of it so I just wanted to see if it was maybe the cause of the problem. I could definitely try reinstalling it and seeing if that had any effect the other way.
I’m not entirely certain how the game networks, but I can tell you a VPN won’t help if you are running the server and a client on the same machine.
You may want to add to your post that your game server is running on the same machine as your client, however.
My apologies, and best of luck.
Ok will do and thank you so much for the advice!
