mostly coming from everywhere with their own laptops and desktops.
That is kind of the perfect use case for VDI. It means you can centrally manage policies and protect your data no matter what machine they are coming in with.

love to do everything via VDI, unfortunately, the team is quite small 65-75 people, and mostly coming from everywhere with their own laptops and desktops.
That should make the cost of doing it fairly low, in addition, it would meet 100% of your security requirements and cut down on the need to have data physically stored in China.
What’s the hold back, cost?
I recommend asking your legal department to look into this and email you an answer
What kind of service or provider, I’m not against the idea, but the latency in China is pretty terrible
Not cost but more the availability on a stable network connection. We’ll need to be able to work even if the wan goes down
You may want to look at solutions based on NoMachine. Their protocols are designed for high latency networks. https://www.nomachine.com/

Hrm, thats a tough one then. I’d love to chat about this offline or refer you to someone that can help come up with a solution that will work. But I’d need to know more about the requirements for data availability. you run into similar issues with the WAN link going down with a VPN, but for the data that you want to keep in CONUS thats a different story.
Right now I don’t really need to host a lot of data outside of China. I could either setup servers at the China location or use AWS China.

Ooohhh, well a VPN would kinda work, but I would recommend configuring it into the users laptop OS. You can do that with Windows built in vpn functionality and DFS so that when ever they are connected everything is just…there. In addition I would recommend setting it so that they never have to do anything to connect.
