For streaming services such as HBOMax, Hulu, and Boomerange (all 3 available in the US only), I can only bypass them with a VPN but get blocked when I have to register for an account since they require a US credit card and billing address.
Just wanted to know about StatesCard recently, even though you can use VPN to get around the geo-restriction blocks, I cannot access the content since I only have a Canadian credit card and can’t purchase the subscription. Has anyone used this to access HBOMax & Boomerang (for cartoons)? I want these 2 as an alternative to Netflix, Disney Plus, and the regular Amazon Prime Video (without any add-on 3rd party channels) that I already have.
Once you register, let’s say you top up $100 CAD from your Canadian credit card, does it automatically take that $100 and make it into USD? (so its more like in between $80-90). I really want to use it to get access to Boomerang. HBO max, and Hulu but I’m not sure if Boomerang accepts pre-paid virtual debit cards as their site only lists they accept credit (for Hulu & HBO max they are okay).
You are over complicating it.
I can subscribe to any US streaming service and have tried them all.
Currently have Hulu (on demand), HBO Max, Peacock, Discovery+ US and ESPN+.
All of them except for Hulu I pay for using my US iTunes account and US iTunes gift cards. Hulu I pay for using Hulu gift cards.
Also VPN’s are not something you need, just use a Smart DNS.
I’ve done the PayPal US thing, it got shut down.
I’ve done the US pre paid credit cards, it got shut down.
The methods I use now are simple and have worked for over 5 years now.
Can’t recommend this enough - Been using statescard for the past 2 years with no issues. Hulu and Sling subscription is done through them and it honestly couldn’t be easier than loading some funds ever few months to keep the subs going
If the streaming service accepts it, you can sign up for a US PayPal account using a VPN and then add your Canadian credit card there. As long as your PayPal account reports as US based, the streaming service should accept it.
The other option is to get a US based bank account with one of the US Subsidiaries of a Canadian Bank. Just make sure it’s actually US based and not just a USD account in Canada.
My personal recommendation would be the CIBC Bank USA Smart Account. You can open it quickly online without needing to visit the US. This gets you a US Based account with a Mastercard Debit card and unlimited transactions for no monthly fee as well as the ability to transfer funds instantly if you have a CIBC account in Canada.
If you don’t bank with CIBC, TD Bank, BMO Harris Bank, and RBC Bank all offer similar products with varying levels of fees.
did anyone get the error “Temporarily unable to issue your card. No worries! We’ve got your payment and our team is on the case.” when they first added funds? is this temporary as the message suggests or should i be worried?
Not a well known thing but you can use a Canadian credit card for US services like these as they only validate the address is valid AND the first three digits of the ZIP code match the 3 digits of your postal code.
If you can find a real US address (Ie post office) that has the same first three digits of your postal code at the start, it will validate and work for your credit card company.
It’s the same way they validate for zip code at the pump in the US.
Hey I’ve used StatesCard to get HBO Max before. So you put a certain amount of money into the card and then buy subscriptions through it. HBO or whoever will take out of it like any card. As soon as the balance on your card is running low, they’ll email you.
Just get an Amazon Firestick, load it with Kodi and a couple of addons like Fen and The Crew, subscribe to Real Debrid and you will have all the movies and tv series you could ever possibly want for next to nothing!!
I know this post is quite old, but for anyone still checking, I just used StatesCard to take advantage of BF deals on Max and Hulu. It works a charm. I also use a SmartDNS (GetFlix) rather than a VPN since speeds are much faster.
I’ve been using Statescard for a little over 2 years.
When you load $100 your Canadian credit card will be charged $100 plus the exchange rate for that particular day, there for you have $100 US funds to spend.
Statescard gives you a US address to use.
I don’t want to resort to gift cards as I have to keep topping them up, I prefer to just use a virtual prepaid card. Will this StatesCard work on Boomerang and HBO Max? I don’t want to put in my own credit card as it will recognize that I’m outside the US and may reject unless it charges foreign currency as well.
